Attending the University of Nottingham was a game of two halves. On one side the city is full of students, the ability to socialise, meet new people, party and be young is second to none. The University plays a big part in this. Housing all the students within walking distance to one another, set on a beautiful and walkable campus, with a lot of great amenities to hang out, meet up and bond. For example a state of the art gym, a bar and cafe in the student union. As well as this there are dozens and dozens of amazing societies anyone can join to help you learn new skills, meet new people and have fun or pursue a hobby you’ve always been involved in or always wanted to be. While the University will allow your social life to thrive and is the greatest setting for self-development and fun, the University course content, support and presence from the lecturers and academic structure leaves a lot to be desired. Frequent strike action meant many cancelled seminars and lectures. I heard few tales of professors being present or helpful to the students in various different subjects, meaning grades may suffer when it comes to final assessments. I would encourage anyone looking for University to be a time of fun, making memories and friends for life to consider UoN, but for those looking to achieve highly in their academic careers I would think twice.
