I have thoroughly enjoyed studying English at Bristol so far. The tutors are supportive and genuinely passionate, and the course is varied and stimulating. However, first year can feel heavy as it begins with medieval literature, requiring pre-seminar translations – a tricky class to be thrown straight into. Second year offers much more choices and the freedom to pick specific interests making the course more engaging and enjoyable.
Seminars are kept relatively small meaning discussions are focused and giving everyone the chance to contribute. You are able to book into tutors weekly office hours for essay advice/feedback etc. which I have found very useful.
The university has a buzzing campus life with a huge number of societies. There are several libraries/study areas which are great to work in.
