A Management degree builds a strong foundation in a wide variety of fields including business, finance, economics and marketing. It develops students’ understanding of business practices, structures, business theory, business strategy and research as well as global economies and financial markets. Doing a Management Degree also allows students to gain skills that enable them to work with financial and numerical data effectively.
Management degrees cover different managerial roles, such as Human Resource (HR) management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. They can be specialized into one of the areas mentioned above or follow a more general approach that covers most of these areas.
The range of management degrees is huge and includes Business Management, Management, Marketing Management, etc. They are predominantly offered in the business departments/business schools/management schools of different universities.
One of the main benefits of this degree is that Management is a broad discipline, which keeps students’ career options open.
Management degrees could have a very practical focus, which is an opportunity for students to gain experience in the process of completing their degree before having started their professional careers. Management courses usually offer work placements and practical modules, which include business simulations and business creation in a simulated environment. Acquiring practical experience through these opportunities could make students stand out from the crowd in the job market once they graduate. Research-oriented Management degrees also exist for those who prefer the theoretical aspects of such a degree. Most courses, however, have established a good balance between theory and practice in order to meet the needs of all students.
Management degrees also prepare students to serve the managerial role across a wide range of areas, including HR management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. Students can specialize in one particular area or focus on gaining knowledge across all of these areas thanks to the high availability of different management courses.
Additionally, there is a high demand for management professionals in the contemporary business world. Therefore, taking a management course is an opportunity for students to kick-start their careers and occupy a higher position in the organizational hierarchy.
Management courses usually begin by introducing students to different areas covered by the managerial role, such as organizational management, business environment, statistics, accounting and finance, business growth, etc. After the first year, institutions allow students to explore the management discipline into more depth by delivering specialized modules and offering optional modules, which enable students to choose subjects that interest them the most and are most relevant to their career aspirations.
Management degrees take 3 years to complete in the UK. However, their duration could extend to 4 years if students choose to spend a year in industry between their second and third year, which is a popular option among the student community. Setting placement opportunities apart, the duration of a Management degree depends on three main factors – country, mode of study (part-time or full-time) and degree level. Below are listed the approximate durations of Management degrees in the most popular countries for Higher Education in Europe:
The University of Southampton is a world class university with world class academic facilities and resources. It has a well stocked modern library where students can have their private studies and research. I enjoyed interacting with the professors in this institution. They were friendly and incredibly great. Students learn to balance both the academic life and social life
View moreUniversity of southampton has a spacious and beautiful campus with a gorgeous environment. Accommodations are low-cost and affordable for students, immense facilities to aid the students. The teachers are exepctional and kind always ready to guide and educate the students.
View moreMy opinion of the University of Southampton is very positive.
What I like the most is the inclusive environment and various opportunities for students. When I first came to the campus, I missed the society “bunfight”. Hence, I did not have a chance to join any of them. I reckon that as a regret of my study there. However, after working as a peer advisor for the business school, I got a chance to see how well-organised the student union is. The university provides Loads of societies, which can fit a wide range of interests from the students’ side. I promoted as many events as possible to the incoming student to offset my regrets. Meanwhile, I had an opportunity to work with the faculty and understand how hard the school is trying to utilise their resources to give students a better studying experience by promoting all of the support services provided by the university.
However, sometimes the way of promoting and championing is not as efficient as it should be. For instance, as mentioned, I missed the society showcase, as it only happened once a year. Others who’d like to join the society need to wait for another year or just miss their chances.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed my stay at the University of Southampton. As it is very international, there are students from all over the world. Therefore, it brought me an opportunity to see and embrace the difference in culture. Meanwhile, studying at the University of Southampton gave me a chance to make many good friends. The friendship that we obtained continued even after my graduation, which cannot be measured in monetary value.
In terms of the courses, a diverse list of programmes is provided. I studied International Management for my master’s. The programme is well-designed and enjoyable. The topics introduced by the lectures are very up-to-date, with a reasonable amount of assignments. At first, it was challenging. However, I gained loads of capabilities after studying at the UoS. For instance, critical thinking, time management, teamwork, and presentation skills etc., which are highly valued by employers in the job market.
Therefore, I will recommend the University of Southampton to my friends and students who are applying for Universities.
Well until now my uni experience has been quite very good, the staff, as well as the management, is quite helpful too. The fact that UoSM has so many facilities for everyone just makes it easier for them to study conveniently. Would recommend anyone to study over here:)
View moreAs of this moment I am currently in the first of my degree studying Business Management at the University of Southampton. It is a very prestige institution that offers high quality lecturers and course content material.
View moreTeachers are nice and I learned a lot of knowledge about fashion marketing and branding. And I hope more offline course could be offered as well as the feedback of assignment could be more fast and detailed.
View moreAs for the process of postgraduate study, The University of Southampton will pay attention to the construction of the structure of knowledge mania and emphasize the process of theoretical learning. This is a key point I like very much, but at the same time, I do not like it. The knowledge that students learn is too simple and there are great difficulties in practical application. Except for a few teachers who will introduce students to practical knowledge in seminars, most instructors do not do this. In my opinion, this university has a high degree of internationalization, which can eliminate prejudice for cultural week in different time. Meanwhile, different cultural activities can let people know different cultures in the world, which is very helpful to build students’ international vision. For job prospects, the school to the help of different students can make different, as is known to all, engineering at the university of Southampton, especially computer science is very outstanding, so in this kind of professional obtain employment prospect is very good also, but for business students, to find a job is more difficult, not many schools can help also.
View moreProfessors are always supportive of students in and outside the classroom. The university gives a very good student experience from learning until the extracurricular activities. Students have many choices to join activities, clubs or societies in the university. Besides, student event organization will host field trips per month and any students can join for free.
The university has top facilities and its student union responses promptly student’s feedback or issues in term of Coronavirus outbreak. Student hotline is always available to take care of student wellbeing or any issues if needed.
Most of the campuses are located near supermarkets, stores and restaurants or city centre. However, two campuses in Winchester are quite isolated but they are near a big Tesco.
As a postgraduate student from Vietnam, my experience this far academically speaking is good so far. Lectures have clear standards as to what coursework should be and contain practical and academic knowledge. Mark schemes were introduced on the first day of the course.
However, there are some bad experiences I have been through while studying here:
1/ Lots of students have passed the pre-sessional English course without having their real transcript. The university increased listening exam mark without a transparent reason.
2/ The changing of mark schemes due to Coronavirus outbreak is inappropriate and disrespect the student’s effort for the whole progress.
Hence, it’s a questionable concern about the academic ranking of the university.
As the university website reads, ‘You’ll be made here’, you can rest assured that you are going to be a part of a dynamic university which enables you to be the best that you can be, by supporting you with so many resources at your disposal. With over 300 clubs and societies to choose from, you can have a well-balanced student life with interesting extracurricular activities. Even with the academics aspect, you have access to extensive resources, both online and offline. And you will constantly be encouraged to think critically, and out-of-the-box; which really helps expand your horizons. You will find yourself creatively challenged often, and when you look back at it, you will really see that as a wonderful learning experience.
One of the reasons why I chose to study at this University was because I was seeking a campus where I could develop a more global outlook. And within a couple of days itself, I found myself revelling in the different opportunities I had to interact with so many other international students. I enjoy meeting new people, and I’ve had the chance to learn so much more about many different and vibrant cultures across the globe-I’ve even learnt many basic phrases in a couple of languages too! While all of this helps you feel more comfortable and less homesick, it also adds a lot of value to your academic life.
When it comes to the accommodations and facilities at the university, you have many options for comfortable halls of residences with different catering options. All the faculties of the university have world-class facilities and resources accessible to all students. And with the picturesque location of this campus, you can really enjoy the beautiful city life while exploring its splendid heritage.
This university offers you all that you need to be the best at what you want to do, it is all up to you how to utilise it and make the most of it!
I think customer service of the University of Southampton is good because the staff always reply quickly. Besides, the policy of our accommodation, degree and qualification is satisfactory after the breakout of Covid-19. It secures our interest, health and safety. But the resources in library are not enough.
