The University of Sheffield is a very good university, with experienced lecturers who are experts in their fields. I wish there was more career help and career support in regard to possible next steps for students and support in that matter.

I really like the University of Sheffield and I received a very good learning experience in my major. The learning environment is very friendly and diverse and takes very good care of us international students. At the same time, the school is extremely strong academically and any communication I have had with teachers here has been very beneficial. The only downside is that there are times in the spring term when teachers go on strike and this affects learning to some extent. I remember that in the spring term, if you don’t count Introduction week, I probably only had four weeks of classes and the rest was self-study, which is slightly unfair to international students, as our tuition fees are very expensive and not being able to attend classes affects us more. However, if students are looking for a good academic atmosphere and a friendly environment, I would still recommend the University of Sheffield.

Studying Sociology with Criminology has been a fantastic experience introducing me not only to the world of crime theory but to a world of opportunities in relation to career opportunities. If it wasn’t for studying the program I’m on I don’t think I would be in the position I’m in now. Sheffield University has been considerably good at delivering the course via blackboard and through face to face lectures however if there was anything I would change it would be an increase in contact hours.

I liked the course because of its interdisciplinary subjects that combined together to provide the skills necessary to understand Sociology to the best of my ability. As the course has been excellent I cannot fault my experience as the teachers of the modules were able to collate the information so that it could be understood by myself. I only wish I had more awareness of module choices so that I could choose other modules outside of Sociology so that I could apply what I have learnt outside of the course.

The University of Sheffield is known for its fantastic nightlife and student experience thanks to this its Student Union continuously being ranked as the best Student Union in the country for the past 5 years. I’m proud to be a part of such a lively and outgoing university which prides itself on its student-centred mindset which allows events to be impactful and relatable to all types of student interests. However, these outstanding accolades and achievements by the university do come with their faults. As the university has been struggling with student engagement at times especially when it comes to events cultural events as these don’t usually garner a lot of attention from the wider student population, however, that’s something I would personally like to change with my recent appointment as a student ambassador to my university course hoping to expose the beauty of multiculturalism and diversity to as many people as I can while in the position.

Three years of having an open floor to put forward my perspectives, but also to explore and criticise others – I personally have to thank the seminar leaders for continuously creating that safe space in our 1-hour seminars. Our lecturers were right; a healthy debate is essential for great research. Seminars were key. Seminars forced each student to find their voice every week and allowed us to build knowledge from each other. If you are passionate about your work, the support you get from the staff within this department is exceptional. You will thrive with their expertise and motivation alongside you.
