I went into Ravensbourne expecting a lot more than the experience I recieved. The tutors were mainly uninterested and unqualified. There was little to no student integration or community, making it hard to make friends and mingle with your peers. Overall my experience was very mediocre and I wouldn’t recommend the university to anyone. They also handled the pandemic quite badly and for someone who’s second and third year was basically all online that is extremely detrimental to the overall experience. A shame.
View moreI was mostly a waste of money, the industry practices were inapplicable due to the pandemic and zoom lectures. All the projects were quite similar and the tutors were not the most helpful. Maybe my experience would have been different if it wasn’t for the pandemic but I am left feeling like I just wasted my money
View moreIllustration for communication promises insight into the creative industry from the get go. The first two years allowed us to explore media to find our footing and develop our brand identity which we put to use in the third year. With visits from the AOI for portfolio reviews and established illustrators to help us with our internal projects, we are guided along with confidence from start to finish.
However the university itself presents challenges as there was a constant lack of communication from student services and other similar bodies which dampened my experience because the disregard for students’ mental wellbeing was a complete juxtaposition from what they advocated when I was applying. As a student rep for my course, I was allowed to bring up these issues in meetings although during my time at the establishment, there was little to no change with regards to these issues.
Considering student life, I think the area surrounding the university is great. North Greenwich is a well-developed area with the O2 arena on the universities doorstep, giving students access to various restaurants and events! There’s also a discount with your Ravensbourne card, which is an added bonus. The student union within the university arrange various events and there’s even a student bar held weekly, allowing people to mingle and make friends with pocket-friendly drinks alongside it.
View moreRavensbourne not only pushes you to connect with people in the industry, but they have a lot of connections with people who can mentor you and guide you. The facilities in the building are amazing too
View moreGreat collaborative opportunities. Sometimes there are too many changes going on to ‘keep up with the industry’ and it could benefit from a bit more continuity. Great facilities. Open plan architectural structure encourages cross-collaboration from different courses. Really good for helping you into the industry you want. Student bars/ extra curricular activities are not so good.
