As a complete novice in architecture, I’m very grateful at the amount of support I am receiving from the school in the form of weekly tutorials and drop-ins from experts in the field. I am learning lots of new skills, such as model making, orthographic drawings, using photoshop, Revit and similar programs. The architecture workshop has lots of different tools you can use and the people there are willing to help you with anything, no matter how difficult. You do lots of sketchbook work as well, which is great for showing your ideas and seeing your progress throughout the year, as well as establishing what the driving force behind your design is from the start. At the end of the year, you create a portfolio, which can be used for a summer job in the field or other relevant work experience.
Overall if you want to study architecture at uni, Newcastle’s an excellent option that I would greatly recommend.
