Where to build employability skills at Newcastle University?

Hi, I am Krassi – a business student at Newcastle University. As a future manager, I need to navigate myself in a professional development direction. I am going to present to you how Newcastle University supports me to achieve this.
About my course. Newcastle University Business School (NUBS) follows the trend for practical teaching. During lectures, we usually have two-way communication, because lecturers attempt to include students in the topic. There are modules (like Business Enterprise) where we often do Personal Development tests and experiments. Additionally, our work during seminars is highly focused on group working. I really like to learn how to proceed in a team environment, to discuss a topic with others and to get in touch with people from different cultures and my course allows me to do this through the seminars. Sometimes, classes are placed in computing labs, where we develop knowledge about Analytical software, such as SAS, SPSS and Minitab. Students are allowed to use the full equipment like printers, study spaces, team rooms outside computer-based classes as well. Every school has its own building and space for studying. However, our Philip Robinson Library also has an awesome studying atmosphere. Lecturers at Newcastle University are very friendly. Everyone has a unique effective teaching style and tries to make lessons fascinating. What I love the most is their attitude outside lectures because they are always happy to help students by email or even arrange a meeting.
However, as a future manager, I know that more experience means more skills. That is why I am introducing the Newcastle University Students Union (NUSU). This is the place where a student could turn their knowledge into skills and practice in a friendly environment. Firstly, we have more than 150 societies, which are not just a chance to meet new friends with similar interests, but also an opportunity to take part in the governance of one. For example, I am currently the president of one society. Each society has a committee, which needs to have a leader. Committees plan and organize events while networking with other societies and organizations. Committee members have to discuss all of this and present it to the society. In other words, this experience improves students’ employability by developing professional skills. Additionally, NUSU has a range of volunteering projects to which every student can contribute. Depending on the project, students could plan events or support other students. Moreover, there are awards like ncl+ Advanced. This project gives students the opportunity to train and develop leadership skills by working with other leaders.
All these practices improve important skills. However, it is the Career Service department that helps students to present these skills in an attractive way. They help with writing CVs and cover letters, improving LinkedIn profile and preparing for interviews. They also offer the so-called JobsOnCampus, which is an excellent opportunity to work as part of the University alongside your studies. However, their criteria are very high. I have applied more than four times, but Career Services have not accepted me. Unfortunately, they do not provide feedback, which could be helpful for students like me to identify and improve their weaknesses.
The three years at Newcastle University are not only for education but for achieving professional skill development.
