Reading about the school, I was impressed by the attention they claim to give the students, their ranking amongst top universities and the business school facilitators plus the partnering bodies. I was also intrigued by the data lab and how their research are always towards the betterment of society and humanity. I was not shocked to resume school and see all these, first hand; I am proud to be part of NUBS story!
The classrooms are standard and environmentally friendly, the campus is aesthetically beautiful and has a story to tell. The reception is almost like a friendly work station and I love how my desk replicates an office setting making me feel at home and not like a child resuming school.
I resumed late and had my supervisors and students helping me catch up with a friendly team that I could reach out to without fear or remorse. It sure is a great place to school and work.
View moreWith so many courses covering such a wide range of content, students are learning more content and concepts to some extent. The extra-curricular activities are also fun and improve the students’ social and teamwork skills. The programme invites authoritative lecturers from around the world to share the latest information about the world, which enhances the students’ horizons. However, there are a lot of classes and a lot of homework, which makes everyone tired and causes students to study inefficiently. Overall it is good.
View moreI think the programme is interesting and well structured. The first semester is more theoretical. I covered topics such as e-business models, business information systems, strategy management and project management. I believe this prepared me for the second semester, which is more practical for sure. The programme allows me to develop skills in working with systems such as Excel, PowerBI, Tableau, Google Analytics, etc. The assignments are very practically-oriented, which includes two group works, video creation, app prototyping. Most of the lecturers are ready to help with any academic questions. The programme includes writing a 12,000 words dissertation. Unfortunately, I can talk to my supervisor only five times, which is not enough… which makes the execution of the research a little bit harder for me.
Overall, the new campus is amazing, we do lectures in three buildings, including the Business School, the Frederick Douglass centre and the USB building. Of course, students could also go and study in the library (20 minutes away from the Business school) as well as in the Students Union Building. I personally prefer the Business School Building because of its study spaces as well as the view of St James’ Park. The spirit in the Business School is super international and I love meeting new international friends. Also, the school has a sustainability campaign thanks to which I received a free notebook, eco-bag and a hoody.
Favourite modulus for the moment: Strategy, Management and Information Systems; Data Analytics; Project Management
The programme is well-designed and strikes a perfect balance between theory and practice. The course is designed in a way that allows people with non-business backgrounds to easily catch up with their colleagues who have studied business and management programmes in their Bachelor studies. The first semester is aimed at giving students a good theoretical foundation and although there are practical elements, learning and assignments are largely focused on theories and how they could potentially be applied in a real-world environment.
The second semester is where practical work really kicks in. All modules involve working with some kind of digital tools, such as Power BI and Excel for data analytics, Websand for marketing and even a little bit of coding using Python. Group projects focused on real-world issues, whether it be optimizing a firm’s supply chain or creating your own business, are an integral part of the course, which allows students to get a feeling of what it is like to work in a team within a simulated yet really professional environment. Overall, the first semester enhances students’ understanding of the business environment in today’s digital world while the second semester provides them with the opportunity to get a taste of working in a professional environment and apply their knowledge and skills in practice.
Additionally, students get an opportunity to explore something that truly interests them in detail by conducting their own research and writing a dissertation on a topic that they can choose entirely by themselves as long as it is connected to the programme in some way.
All in all, this is a programme that not only gives you really useful skills for the contemporary business environment but also prepares you for the future of work.
View moreOverall the programme is good. However, there are certain things that could improve about the course, like with any other course. It isn’t perfect, but would definitely recommend it. The uni does a lot in terms of supporting careers after uni, the support system in terms of that sense is incredible. Definitely recommend the uni and the course.
View moreStudying at the University of Newcastle, Business School offers me great skills. Firstly, I have met many international students and became my true friends. Tutors help me to complete the assignment correctly. Great feedback helps me to become better.
View moreThe module offers a very broad education and the personnel tries to make this procedure of learning exciting and interactive. Like for example bringing guests and professionals to talk on the topic and provide important information that will help students in the workplace. What could be improved is to provide an online recording for all the modules of the course so that students can get to those lectures at any time they want.
