I studied Games Design at Middlesex University and overall had a fairly positive experience. The course gives you a solid introduction to different areas of game development, including design theory, basic programming, and working with industry-standard tools. It’s especially good if you’re still figuring out which part of game development interests you most, as it exposes you to a bit of everything.

One of the stronger aspects is the practical focus. There are quite a few group projects, which can be hit or miss depending on your team, but they do reflect how game development works in real life. When the group dynamic is good, you can learn a lot about collaboration, deadlines, and problem-solving. You also end up with a small portfolio by the end, which is useful when applying for jobs or further opportunities.
