I don’t spend a lot of time at AMBS because my main degree is in Mechanical Engineering, but whenever I’m there I wish I was there more!
The new building is very comfortable and really helps boost my productivity, staff is very friendly and accommodating and the facilities available to the students are great.
I’ve only had two lecturers from AMBS so far, and they were both very knowledgeable in their fields and ready to offer their help whenever I needed it.
Highly recommended!
I believe this University has both its merits but also has a lot to improve on.
In terms of teaching for my course, i believe it’s not particularly bad but for the majority of the content it would make a difference whether you attended a lecture or not.
The Social life is very inclusive and it’s quite easy to try new things which I really admire. There are things to do during the day and the nightlife is good as well. Also because Manchester is a big city which means a lot of things are open till late as well.
The quality Accommodation really just depends on where you live. The quality of the halls I lived in was very poor. There were mice and cockroach problems. The electricity in the kitchen was very faulty as well. The main problem I found that they didn’t take our concerns seriously enough. In terms of the actual experience living within the halls was good though. Living with so many people was a good opportunity to make friends.
The Careers advice I believe is very good. I believe it does depend on how much people utilize the facilities though. In terms of programmes run by the university you can apply for, unless you come from a low income family then there isn’t really much for you.
Overall I’d say the university is a good university but it’s really a matter of trying to make the most of what it has to offer.

View moreEveryone at the university is very friendly, making it an amazing environment to learn and have fun in. It offers many opportunities for socialize and meet new people and learn new cultures. The teaching staff are very well informed, clear, and precise; making for very enjoyable lectures.
View moreThe University of Manchester offers a great balance between the feel of a campus and a city university. Last year, I was living in a catered hall, and that gave me some of the experiences one would expect from a campus university as well as the entertainment of a bustling city. My course is also great. Mechanical Engineering with Management is exactly what I wanted to study, and this was one of the few univerities to offer it. The academic support here is incredible (I suppose most U.K. universities are very good at that) and, on the whole, the lecturers are interesting and extremely knowledgeable. The School of MACE is very good, offering plenty of opportunities during and post-degree, the university is huge, with all the societies you could imagine, and Manchester is a fantastic city full of friendly people! I’ve been here for two years and I am very happy. Overall, it’s a great place to live and learn.
