Psychology is the favourite science for students who want to get into the depths of human feelings. This is considered to be the science of mind and behaviour. More specifically, psychology wants to explore the way people think, act, and feel, by appealing to the emotional side of people.
Passion can lead students to choose this specialisation. It is not considered a difficult one, but it is not very easy to approach, as the theoretical elements of the discipline are combined with the practical ones.
After studying Psychology, students choose to specialise in a particular sub-field. Depending on their preference, they can choose between Biological Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Comparative Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Personality Psychology and many others.
Psychology is a great opportunity to get to know each other better and to get to know others. Thus, students who are looking to understanding human behaviour, feelings and mind gain an inside vision of what these notions really mean and what determines people to make certain decisions and act under different circumstances.
The employment rate among Psychology graduates has grown in recent years. Salaries are satisfactory, and young people can focus either on psychological services in schools, hospitals, treatment centres, clinics, depending on the specialisation chosen. Furthermore, Psychology graduates can integrate a career in social media, marketing, and advertising, as they understand best the reasons why people choose to make decisions according to what they see in real life.
In the four years of Bachelor studies, graduates acquire the necessary knowledge to practice Psychology, initially learning the underlying theoretical notions. These notions become an important starting point in their career, seeing later how practice blends very well with theory. It should be noted that on the labour market, students who hold a Bachelor’s degree are much more appreciated and have an advantage over those who follow simple courses.
A Master’s program usually lasts between 2 and 3 years, coming as a complement to the Bachelor’s courses. Master courses have a much more loaded curriculum and a great deal of information. A Doctoral program is dedicated to students who want to do research in Psychology in various institutes or to become teachers. This has a duration of between 5 and 7 years.
Following my passion for psychology since sixth grade, I chose to study psychology as my bachelor’s degree at Manchester Metropolitan University. I wasn’t too sure what to expect from the course. No, my university experience thing is that I was the first in my family to go to university, and I didn’t have any older friends that had gone to university either. Therefore, I found myself going to university with a couple of my friends, and we were all in the same class. We would support each other a lot of the time, but we also had a lot of fun. We had a lot of different experiences, but overall, I think that the course was a positive one for all of us. The course was exciting, and it was nice to be able to study something that we were so passionate about and enjoyed doing. We would help each other with our coursework, share notes, discuss new ideas and have debates on the topics we were studying. The exams were quite stressful. However, the tutors’ support of the university and the faculty was unwavering, and we really needed and appreciated their time and effort. The accommodations at the university are also quite nice. I didn’t really enjoy living with other people, and that’s why in my second year I chose not to. However, I still cherish the time that I spent with my flatmates in the first year. I enjoyed being at this university so much that I chose to stay there while I did my masters, and it was only because of the support and the relationships that I cultivated with my tutors and staff members that I chose to stay and chose to continue in postgraduate research.
View moreAs someone who had never visited Manchester before moving here for uni, I didn’t know what to expect. But can easily say I have not been disappointed. Alongside the city being something you can compare to the likes of Amsterdam, the University Experience has been nothing but full-filling. After having some ups and down during my time, the staff have been nothing but supportive and attentive, giving me confidence that my well being is being prioritised. The course I am doing is interesting and engaging, and I look forward to going in and learning, and the tutors and lecturers are lovely and helpful. Couldn’t recommend this uni enough to anyone interested in moving to Manchester for university.
View moreManchester Met University is great so far. I have just begun my PhD journey but the supervisors have been great, we have weekly catch ups and my schedule is laid out clearly with my deadlines and I can time manage efficiently. A lot of the material is online or via zoom which I do not mind, but having done my undergrad pre Covid, I sometimes miss that social life so its’ important to take part in any socials you get the chance to, in order to expand your network and gain support from peers.

View moreThe societies are great and seeing as I love Manchester, it’s nice to live in the city itself and be within walking distance of everything. The union can feel a little bit disorganised at times but the societies provided and other services are helpful.
