As a third-year student at University College London (UCL), my experience has been both academically rigorous and personally rewarding. The university’s diverse, international community has provided me with the opportunity to engage with students and faculty from all over the world, enriching my perspective and learning experience. UCL’s interdisciplinary approach allows me to explore multiple fields and make valuable connections between them, enhancing my academic growth.
UCL offers exceptional resources, including extensive libraries, research centres, and accessible professors who encourage critical thinking and intellectual curiosity. The academic challenges are balanced by a supportive environment that promotes exploration and development.
Situated in the heart of London, UCL offers unrivalled access to internships, career opportunities, and cultural experiences. The city’s dynamic environment has been integral to my personal and professional development, offering numerous networking opportunities in various industries.
UCL’s vibrant student life has allowed me to grow outside the classroom as well, with opportunities to get involved in student societies and extracurricular activities, helping me develop leadership and teamwork skills.
Overall, UCL has provided me with the academic foundation and real-world exposure to thrive in my future career while offering a welcoming and enriching environment.
View moreGood university with a range of opportunities, both academic and social, but it can also be a challenging environment that sometimes feels too big and decentralized. BASc Arts and Sciences is a great course, small department that provides a lot of help and support to its students, and allows exploration of different subjects. However, although it seems like the perfect course for someone unsure of what they might like to pursue, it is actually better for people who have several but clear, well-defined interests so they can use this programme to pursue those interests in a coherent way. Overall, I think UCL and London in general would be better for a master’s than for an undergraduate degree, as both the university and city environment are vibrant but very busy and challenging.
View moreTeaching is good, love it!!! one of the best times I’ve met so many lovely people here, learn a lot through exposure to entrepreneurship, resources great, alumni great, its amazing here! You get talks , and you learn so much!
View moreI absolutely love UCL, especially thanks to my degree. In Arts and Sciences, we are allowed to pick all of our modules, which is amazing. I enjoy the diversity of people and the multitude of activities and events. I have met so many great people and there is not a single day where I would say I am bored.
The only problem I could notice is the low amount of classes, which is sometimes too low for me. Weeks can be very empty if you do not fill them correctly. Also, many of the seminar tutors are quite bad. These are the only two negative things that I can find about UCL.
View moreUCL is a great university not only for its amazing worldwide ranking but also with it being in central London while also allowing students to feel as though they are in a closed campus. This is thanks to its great societies and events to allow socialization but also with its buildings all being concentrated in one location. It also offers a variety of new and great facilities.
View moreThe majority of professors I’ve encountered have been helpful and supportive. Go talk to them, they will be of great help during exam revision or even to write an essay. It might be daunting but they are very welcoming.
View moreWhat is probably UCL’s biggest selling point is the fact that the student population here is extremely international – it certainly upholds its name as London’s Global University. Furthermore, there is a plethora of clubs and societies for students to join and participate in, further expanding one’s areas for growth in terms of extra-curricular interests and just as a person in general. The professors here are generally good too – I have heard of some bad stories with teaching assistants but my personal experience has been pretty good thus far, and I highly doubt that one will find a university anywhere with a hundred percent-perfect teaching staff.
View moreUCL was my first choice and I am extremely glad to be attending it. It’s very well located, making it easily accessible from all over London. I really love the fact that you have a proper campus feeling: sometimes I forget that it’s in London. In that sense, UCL makes an effort to create a comfortable and nice environment. In addition, there is much support for career advise: we have our own advisor in the department, which is incredibly helpful for finding internships in the summer or even just discovering what direction you want to go; but you can also get weekly e-mails for part-time jobs to earn some money on the side. I would probably prefer some smaller classes where participation is more emphasised; but this is mainly because my psychology classes can be attended by many different departments, making seminar classes impossible. But it would definitely be better to emphasise the student-professor relationship. We do have tutors that you can meet as often as you would like and that insist on meetings every term, though. Lastly I really enjoy that there are so many different societies, showing that although the academic is important, a balance between extracurricular activities and academia is even better.
View moreUCL is a good university that has many offers, it focuses on the development of its students by helping them in their job and internship search and is constantly here to help. However, I think in some cases there is much more workload on students than there should be: there needs to be a better balance between lectures and readings, requiring some professors to change their way of teaching, as too much relies on weekly readings. (whilst still being very much aware that students need to work of course). Other than that, I would definitely recommend UCL to anyone.
View moreUCL is a big university with a very central location in a very big city which can seem overwhelming at first but while it is not a closed campus, it does feel like one because of the proximity of all its buildings. It’s also very international and a lot of effort is made to make sure that everyone is integrated and feels comfortable (in terms of food options, events…) The main reason I chose this university is for its very unique interdisciplinary course Arts and Sciences (which I am currently undertaking). It allows to have a variety of module options and is a very flexible course which encourages students to be open-minded and do what interests them. I do think that sometimes there are a few issues in the way it is structured, making it sometimes hard to make sure every student is taking all the modules that they want to do, but it is still amazing as there are no other UK courses similar to this one. (we also have a common room and get free donuts every Thursday which is definitely a plus) In terms of facilities, UCL offers a lot of different study spaces and cafes and the campus is located in an area full of restaurants, cute little parks and hangout spots. However, the UCL residences have not been renovated in very long and are very old compared to those of other big London Universities. __On a last note, like every other university, UCL has a few flaws to mention but overall, my experience has been amazing and extremely rewarding and I would definitely recommend this university to everyone who would think about attending it!
