Great university. The maths professors here were caring, attentive and supplied extra out of hours aid to anyone.
You have access to a huge variety of sports clubs and societies – definitely worth attending even if it’s for the free food!
One absolute standout thing about QMUL is its dedication to helping students with extenuating circumstances. They go above and beyond and have a number of staff ready till late hours to assist and help with absolutely anything.
Highly recommend, friendly staff, great places to eat and socialise nearby and it has the very accessible Mile End station 5 minutes walk away.
View moreIt is pretty chill. The schedule isn’t as hectic which allows us to really focus well on modules. Good support is provided by peers and teachers. Seminar class sizes are typically small so, it’s much easier to ask questions and connect with tutors.
View moreI found the university to be strategically located in the heart of the city, striking a perfect balance between accessibility and seclusion from distractions. This ensured a conducive environment for focused academic pursuits.
The student accommodations along the canal were nothing short of picturesque, offering not only a scenic view but also well-equipped facilities. Living in such an environment added a pleasant dimension to the overall student experience.
One notable aspect of the university was its cohesive city campus. Unlike some universities where facilities are scattered, Queen Mary’s design facilitated meaningful interactions. Whether in the company of course mates, dorm mates, or interacting with lecturers and professors, the campus layout fostered a sense of community.
However, it’s worth mentioning that some departments appeared dated, and there seemed to be an opportunity to allocate resources towards their renewal. While the emphasis on student accommodation is valuable, directing some attention and investment towards updating departmental resources could contribute to an even more enriching academic experience.
View moreUnder NO circumstances should you apply to this uni – my experience has been beyond appalling. I attended QM as a part timer over 2 years, here as some of the awful highlights:
– was not informed at all about MSc projects, despite asking tutor. Ended up starting my project 4 (!) months late through no fault of my own
– my course decided to remove all extra-curricular modules on offer without telling students, and I only found out by chance days before the new term started
– staff have very often completely ignored my emails, whether it’s requesting for feedback on an exam, background textbooks for a module or asking whether I can do the MSc project they have on offer
– admin charged me the wrong fees twice, and neglect to tell students important information
– staff consistently messing up the recording of lecturers, resulting in no sound, no video, etc
– zero social interaction between students in the course
The Queen Mary University of London is among the leading universities in the UK. The Faculty here is outstanding and the research environment is very good. The classrooms are equipped with modern audio-visual facilities.
View moreI am currently a 3rd year Maths student at QMUL, and my experience of studying maths has been more of a rollercoaster than anything else.
Firstly, I’d like to state that Mathematics lecturers are for the most part horrible teachers, they understand what they are teaching but cannot properly teach the subject as they struggle to teach students who have no understanding of the subject and therefore simply read off of typeset notes made prior to the lectures.
Secondly, as Maths is a hard subject and with what I have already stated above, the module teaches a student more on how to self teach and learn with other students through discussion and team projects than simply being taught by a teacher. Thus the real lesson to learn from studying Maths is, how to study effectively and learning from your peers.
Finally, the most transferrable skill that one can acquire from studying Mathematics is problem solving as the subject mostly teaches a person how to think outside the box, conditioning one to solve problems with outside of the box thinking.
View moreThe uni is good, professors are helpful, but some of them are not natives in English which makes it hrs sometimes to understand the lectures. Besides that I’d say that my course in particular does not require going to lectures whatsoever, because the professors cover the same material as the lectures notes do. I’d like to see more practical problems and application of the theory we have in the lecture notes
View moreThe university really emphasised the career events which was super helpful. For example, there were career events with employers from different companies and they’d speak to us about their experience and give advice. Upon leaving university I had industries I had an interest in.
View moreQMUL is a university in the Eastern part of London with great facilities at that time when I was graduating and many civil projects in place to increase existing facilities. All the studies took place on one campus and dormitories were on campus or just across the road outside the campus. During my studies, I made a lot of friends that left a lot of nice moments together to remember.
