    Personal development

I think this university not only values their students academic development, but also their personal development. They focus on building personal skills such as interpersonal skills, time management, communication and teamwork skills, preparing them to enter the real world. They are also very keen to help out students in need and pay attention to mental health. Imperial always stays up to date with current technology and likes to be on the front lines, and it makes me really proud to be in a university like this.

Imperial, it could make or break you

Honestly speaking, it’s a highly competitive university. You’ll be challenged at every turn, making you feel like you’re average or below average in this sea of people. So it could either drive you down or push you up. Seeing other people around you work hard can push you to grow further but seeing the people that are naturally intelligent can be intimidating and make you question yourself. Most courses (especially engineering, computing, and the likes) tend to fill your schedule to the brim with classes and assignments. However, the student community is very impressive. I find the societies and clubs a good place to retreat and put a break on the studious life.

The quality of education is fantastic but can feel isolating

I am so glad that I chose to come to Imperial. My experience with the education has been fantastic. I am a student of the newly reformed medical biosciences course and it was definitely the right choice for me. The access to top notch equipment in the labs has been amazing and all the teaching staff have been so helpful when I needed help. The only downside for me has been the social side. I do not drink and there is a lack of non-alcoholic events and because you are located in London, it can be hard to meet people. You have to make sure you make the effort to go out to society events etc. If you do this, you will be fine! The welfare support has also been good. When I was struggling in second year, I accessed the counselling service relatively easily and didn’t have to wait very long.

    Imperial Life

I like the quality of teaching and the topics that are being covered. The structure of the programmes (depending on which) is very flexible and it allows the joining of external clubs, meeting friends and going out.

One of the drawbacks is the intensity of work and the academic pressure sometimes. However this usually tends to be a problem closer to exam and coursework periods.

Imperial College London reviewed by a final year student

Studying Medical Biosciences at Imperial College London has been a great flipped classroom learning experience where interactive and independent studies are promoted via pre-session e-modules and elimination of traditional lectures. Cultural diversity by the presence of several international students made me feel welcomed and inclusive as an international student. Moreover, lab facilities and other technological exposure definitely make this university a better choice than others. However, I experienced intense workload and stress which I was able to tackle with the help of mental health/disability services easily available for all. Overall, it is said to be a reputable university on different websites/forums which can be personally verified when you get to represent and own it on a national or international level with other students and employers. Highly recommended for students who do not get intimidated by challenges and workload, but would recommend others to consider this pressure beforehand.

    The good and the bad

Errors in exams, late in notifying students, not organized however , great resources and some lecturers are very interactive with students, course content is also very well set up. Library is kept very well as well as labs.

    Not like what I expected

The teachers and staff provide great support for students. However, lectures do not reach my expectations. Since the lectures are mainly based on research conducted by faculties in a specific department, the topics covered in the course are not diverse. In addition, some lectures are given by postdocs which may not have much experience in teaching, so they cannot deliver key points well. For the facilities, lab equipment and instruments are abundant and high in quality. For the accommodation, I give a very low score since Imperial offers its accommodation to undergraduate students only.
