I studied History Politics and Philosophy at Lancaster University and overall my experience was good. I picked my degree in the hopes that I would learn about a diverse range of subjects and events that would help broaden my knowledge … and i did!
Studying a triple major meant that i got to pick from a substantial number of modules each year meaning that the course was never stagnant. I was able to pursue my interest in history whilst develop a new love for philosophy and politics. The facilities at Lancaster University also supported independent learning especially the library, which became my best friend!
Whilst there were some modules that i enjoyed more then others overall i got to expand my learning to include a healthy mixture of topics i was already familiar with as well as explore modules that were more alien. My one critique would be that because my degree comes under two different departments (history and PPR) i sometimes found the administration of my degree and my module choices to be confusing. However often times visiting the heads of both departments helped clarify any issues i may have had.
Overall I would definitely recommend Lancaster University especially if you are looking to study the humanities. The campus is very serene with a multitude of helpful facilities and services that enable effective studying. If you are someone who is struggling to fine tune your interests i highly recommend that you explore the different degree combinations you can get as it allows you to explore more subjects if you haven’t quite gotten to the place in which you are fully certain about what to study. However just be mindful that you have to be slightly more proactive about the management of your degree especially when it comes to picking modules for the next year.
