As an international student who loves English learning, I chose this degree scheme without hesitation. All of the staff from my department are super warm-hearted and helpful. At the start of the first term, there are many new things I was struggling with and need more help in this academic field (such as language structures, syntax, semantics, phonetics). Whenever I have questions, I can either go to their office drop-in sessions or email them to make an appointment and they are always full of energy to help and support me.
There are also a variety of activities held by my department. I have participated in different societies and events that have helped me gain more confidence in public speaking. I am part of the Linguistics Society, which ran over 31 events and talks over the three terms relating to the application of linguistics in various fields, such as the combination of linguistics with computer science. I am also working as one of the ambassadors for welcoming and liaising with prospective students who are interested in Linguistics and English Language.
Overall, during my three years at Lancaster, I have made lots of friends, my English has rapidly improved and the most important thing is that I have learned to study and think independently.”
