What is a Management degree?

A Management degree builds a strong foundation in a wide variety of fields including business, finance, economics and marketing. It develops students’ understanding of business practices, structures, business theory, business strategy and research as well as global economies and financial markets. Doing a Management Degree also allows students to gain skills that enable them to work with financial and numerical data effectively.

Management degrees cover different managerial roles, such as Human Resource (HR) management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. They can be specialized into one of the areas mentioned above or follow a more general approach that covers most of these areas.

The range of management degrees is huge and includes Business Management, Management, Marketing Management, etc. They are predominantly offered in the business departments/business schools/management schools of different universities.

Benefits of a Management degree

One of the main benefits of this degree is that Management is a broad discipline, which keeps students’ career options open.

Management degrees could have a very practical focus, which is an opportunity for students to gain experience in the process of completing their degree before having started their professional careers. Management courses usually offer work placements and practical modules, which include business simulations and business creation in a simulated environment. Acquiring practical experience through these opportunities could make students stand out from the crowd in the job market once they graduate. Research-oriented Management degrees also exist for those who prefer the theoretical aspects of such a degree. Most courses, however, have established a good balance between theory and practice in order to meet the needs of all students.

Management degrees also prepare students to serve the managerial role across a wide range of areas, including HR management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. Students can specialize in one particular area or focus on gaining knowledge across all of these areas thanks to the high availability of different management courses.

Additionally, there is a high demand for management professionals in the contemporary business world. Therefore, taking a management course is an opportunity for students to kick-start their careers and occupy a higher position in the organizational hierarchy.

management degree Structure

Management courses usually begin by introducing students to different areas covered by the managerial role, such as organizational management, business environment, statistics, accounting and finance, business growth, etc. After the first year, institutions allow students to explore the management discipline into more depth by delivering specialized modules and offering optional modules, which enable students to choose subjects that interest them the most and are most relevant to their career aspirations.

Good Experience at University of Surrey

Studying Business Management with a focus on Marketing at the University of Surrey has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me. The program’s comprehensive curriculum provided a solid foundation in various aspects of business and marketing, equipping me with the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career in the field.

One of the standout features of my time at the University of Surrey was the opportunity to join the hockey club. Being part of the club not only allowed me to stay active and maintain a healthy lifestyle but also helped me forge lasting friendships with like-minded individuals who shared my passion for sports. The sense of camaraderie and teamwork within the club was truly inspiring and added a vibrant dimension to my university life.

Moreover, the highlight of my academic journey was undoubtedly the placement opportunity I secured at Bosch. This real-world experience was invaluable in bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical application. During my time at Bosch, I was able to apply the marketing strategies and concepts I had studied in the classroom to real business scenarios. The exposure to a dynamic corporate environment taught me valuable lessons about adaptability, problem-solving, and effective communication, skills that are essential in the competitive world of business.

Overall, my time at the University of Surrey studying Business Management with a focus on Marketing has been a transformative experience. The combination of an enriching academic curriculum, participation in the hockey club, and the hands-on placement opportunity at Bosch has provided me with a holistic education that is preparing me for a successful career in the marketing industry. I am grateful for the opportunities and experiences I’ve had, and I’m excited to take what I’ve learned into the professional world.

    Support on campus

I wound definitely recommend the University of Surrey as they are very supportive with everything especially in your 3rd year when getting ready to enter the working world. You can book 1:1 sessions whenever you need to prepare yourself for work interviews, they go into every detail you may need to know. They also provide you with lots of opportunities that can help your profile look more impressive such as studying abroad and placements! Overall as a graduate of the University of Surrey I was really pleased with all their support within education and with social events on campus.

    Why I like Guildford

Guildford is a beautiful city! It was so good to leave London for a few years. I was fed up with the crowds, the stress of the metro. Guildford is the combination of city life and countryside. The Surrey campus is perfect. I would love to spend summer afternoons on the lake with my friends.

    Good environment

Very good atmosphere in Surrey. Usually the guys are very friendly, especially if they’re from your club. I got into football and I was immediately welcomed, the seniors helped us with everything. Including in lessons. My mentor ended up helping me before the exams

    Good uni amazing experience

I loved studying in Surrey. Coming from Germany, I can say that Surrey is much better than any German university. Student life is really cool. I recommend joining sports like rowing and social and international societies. Hispanic society was really cool.

    Good food = good uni

I’ve already seen that the vast majority of reflections are about the course, teachers or student life so I’m going to write about food. Very good restaurants and most importantly quite cheap. I recommend Youngs Kitchen the owner of the restaurant has been there for centuries and is lovely

    Surrey university great feedback

I really enjoyed my studies in Surrey, I graduated in 2020 and have been working at Goldman in the Munich office for 2 years. Without a doubt, the best thing about Surrey is its connection to the industry. The vast majority of students who do internships in their first year of study always end up with offers for after their studies

Very good program I loved it

I really enjoyed the course. My brother studied there before me and he had spoken really well about Surrey and I ended up going too. One thing I noticed is that Surrey is a big family. Everyone knows each other and everyone helps each other. I loved the environment
