What is a Management degree?

A Management degree builds a strong foundation in a wide variety of fields including business, finance, economics and marketing. It develops students’ understanding of business practices, structures, business theory, business strategy and research as well as global economies and financial markets. Doing a Management Degree also allows students to gain skills that enable them to work with financial and numerical data effectively.

Management degrees cover different managerial roles, such as Human Resource (HR) management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. They can be specialized into one of the areas mentioned above or follow a more general approach that covers most of these areas.

The range of management degrees is huge and includes Business Management, Management, Marketing Management, etc. They are predominantly offered in the business departments/business schools/management schools of different universities.

Benefits of a Management degree

One of the main benefits of this degree is that Management is a broad discipline, which keeps students’ career options open.

Management degrees could have a very practical focus, which is an opportunity for students to gain experience in the process of completing their degree before having started their professional careers. Management courses usually offer work placements and practical modules, which include business simulations and business creation in a simulated environment. Acquiring practical experience through these opportunities could make students stand out from the crowd in the job market once they graduate. Research-oriented Management degrees also exist for those who prefer the theoretical aspects of such a degree. Most courses, however, have established a good balance between theory and practice in order to meet the needs of all students.

Management degrees also prepare students to serve the managerial role across a wide range of areas, including HR management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. Students can specialize in one particular area or focus on gaining knowledge across all of these areas thanks to the high availability of different management courses.

Additionally, there is a high demand for management professionals in the contemporary business world. Therefore, taking a management course is an opportunity for students to kick-start their careers and occupy a higher position in the organizational hierarchy.

management degree Structure

Management courses usually begin by introducing students to different areas covered by the managerial role, such as organizational management, business environment, statistics, accounting and finance, business growth, etc. After the first year, institutions allow students to explore the management discipline into more depth by delivering specialized modules and offering optional modules, which enable students to choose subjects that interest them the most and are most relevant to their career aspirations.

Helping students to achieve their career

Strathclyde university is one of the reputable university in Glasgow. Being a part of this university makes me feel proud as a student. Over the years, the marketing department has taught its students different aspects of marketing such as the 4P’s, digital marketing, consumer behaviour that shaped my perception about marketing. The University has provided with real life assignments which helped as a student to gain understanding about the topic and how the theory would be applied outside of university. From year 1 to year 3 , I am able to apply the concept of marketing in my day to day life and would love to share this knowledge with others as well.

    A varied Experience

Starting university in September 2020 was obviously a very interesting time with both the student and university having to improvise to try and replicate the Uni experience online with there being no in person classes, I believe in the most part, this was done well considering the circumstances with the university offering as much as they possibly could in terms of help and support.

Now in my Third year and finally stepping foot into a classroom, I would argue that this has been the most challenging aspect of my University journey so far. Although I have enjoyed and been impressed by the quality of in person classes given by the Uni so far, I feel as if more support and understanding could have been given to students who for the first time we’re stepping foot on campus. Support such as campus tours and a general understanding of the anxiety and pressure that will come with in-person exams, especially as it will be the first time for many for a while, would have improved the transitional period of returning to campus.

Overall, I have been pleased with my time at Strathclyde so far however I feel they could have been more understanding and offered better communication in a time that was hard for all.

    Valuable Knowledge and Experience

Strathclyde University is overall a good option for many students looking to pursue a career in business and entrepreneurship, with their award-winning business school. The lecturers and tutors are very knowledgeable about, not only their course material but how their own life experience can help students make practical connections with the material. However, communication with the university staff overall can be difficult. Most subject departments will take up to 5 working days to answer queries, and the university’s student support and finance department take approximately 5 weeks to answer any queries.

Friendly staff and a nice environment

When I look at a new program, not only do I focus on the course itself, but also the people working in that specific environment. Applying for postgraduate studies in Strathclyde, I literally felt welcomed. The staff was patient enough to answer all the questions I had, and the genuine response I received made my decision a lot easier. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to reach out, I’m confident that they’ll answer you with the utmost sincerity. I invite you to come to Glasgow and explore the city together.
    Peace and love.

    Good variety

The uni provides a good international outlook and a variety of subjects to study within the programme however I’m aware multiple other universities offer a year’s placement which then helps with employment prospects after your degree. This is one area Strathclyde was lacking in.
