As one of the oldest universities in the world, the University of Edinburgh has a lot of old buildings, so everyday it seems that I study in old castles with beautiful sceneries. Our school has a lot of resources, for example, library resources. In case we don’t make good use of it, our school set a course to help us with that, which is really nice. For my major, we have practical homework and readings. Tutors would explain some theories in seminars and we do our practice and have further discussions in out tutorials. I think it is a good place to study.
View moreThe University of Edinburgh is one of the best in the world, especially in the field I studied – machine learning. The lecturers are professional, knowledgeable and approachable, always finding ingenious ways to engage their audience.
The labs are well-equipped and the libraries are well stocked.
The projects for grades were well structured and explained. Most of them involved working in pairs or groups. I think this improved my social skills in myself and others. Furthermore, grouping people with different backgrounds made us more tolerant, understanding, and willing to teach each other in subjects where we were lacking familiarity.
As soon as I graduated I was able to find a job relatively easily. I believe my degree has equipped me with all the skills I needed to be required for the interviews.
View moreThe lecturers are passionate about their subjects, and the university offers many different opportunities for electives. Be sure to pay attention to the weight of content though, as academic readings can pile up. The school is very popular with international students. I feel that it does open up my career prospects due to its popularity and prestige.
View moreI really loved my programme at University of Edinburgh. While the head of my programme was a little unclear, the support I had from my dissertation supervisor was absolutely amazing, and the support from the rest of the faculty was second to none.
The course was extremely flexible considering my background in general linguistics from my undergraduate, and they allowed me to take courses throughout the School of Language Science that suited where I wanted to take my degree. Provided someone has the background, the department really helps you get the most out of your degree by eliminating redundancy, and I couldn’t have been happier.
I would absolutely recommend this course to anyone looking for a more academic and less second language teaching focus for applied linguistics, which is what I was looking for. I now hold a well-paying job in my home city that was relevant to my thesis.
