What is a Psychology Degree?

Psychology is the favourite science for students who want to get into the depths of human feelings. This is considered to be the science of mind and behaviour. More specifically, psychology wants to explore the way people think, act, and feel, by appealing to the emotional side of people.

Passion can lead students to choose this specialisation. It is not considered a difficult one, but it is not very easy to approach, as the theoretical elements of the discipline are combined with the practical ones.

After studying Psychology, students choose to specialise in a particular sub-field. Depending on their preference, they can choose between Biological Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Comparative Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Personality Psychology and many others.

Benefits of a Psychology Degree

Psychology is a great opportunity to get to know each other better and to get to know others. Thus, students who are looking to understanding human behaviour, feelings and mind gain an inside vision of what these notions really mean and what determines people to make certain decisions and act under different circumstances.

The employment rate among Psychology graduates has grown in recent years. Salaries are satisfactory, and young people can focus either on psychological services in schools, hospitals, treatment centres, clinics, depending on the specialisation chosen. Furthermore, Psychology graduates can integrate a career in social media, marketing, and advertising, as they understand best the reasons why people choose to make decisions according to what they see in real life.

Psychology Degree Structure

In the four years of Bachelor studies, graduates acquire the necessary knowledge to practice Psychology, initially learning the underlying theoretical notions. These notions become an important starting point in their career, seeing later how practice blends very well with theory. It should be noted that on the labour market, students who hold a Bachelor’s degree are much more appreciated and have an advantage over those who follow simple courses.

A Master’s program usually lasts between 2 and 3 years, coming as a complement to the Bachelor’s courses. Master courses have a much more loaded curriculum and a great deal of information. A Doctoral program is dedicated to students who want to do research in Psychology in various institutes or to become teachers. This has a duration of between 5 and 7 years.

    My Experience

I think Warwick is a great university. Its student population is very diverse, the faculty is great and the campus is beautiful. The only thing which I dislike a bit is its location, apart from that, everything is amazing.

An unfiltered review of my experience

Providing me with an unparalleled atmosphere for education and unforgettable friendships, I can truly say Warwick has contributed in large to the person I am today. It has instilled in me a sense of belonging and made me realise the extent to which I can make my place in our vast world. As a second year undergraduate studying psychology, I have gained valuable insights into the workings of the human mind. The Warwick psychology department is a warm and academically driven community to be a part of, with excellent educators to impart knowledge to me. The Warwick campus presents itself as a safe haven for students attending the university, it definitely was one for me when I lived on campus last year at bluebell. I thoroughly enjoyed my walks around the woodlands surrounding my accommodation, the bluebell lake was a favourite spot of mine when I needed time to myself, the geese however, as Warwick legend states can be a little daunting but is one of the many things unique to the university. I have loved every minute that I have been a part of this lovely community, and I know when I graduate next year, I will definitely miss my daily trips to the library.

Warwick is an excellent University with knowledgeable lecturers, state-of-the-art facilities and a wonderful ethos of work and play. Furthermore, the campus is both a relaxing and fun place to be. There is a huge number of clubs and societies to suit all tastes, so there is plenty of opportunity to meet and engage with like-minded individuals. If sport is your thing, there are fantastic sports facilities and a number of sports clubs you can participate in to get the competitive juices flowing. It’s just a truly brilliant all-around University

A balance between work and fun

After having spent two full years at the University of Warwick, I am confident in the fact that I would recommend the university. Coming to Warwick as an international student, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to meet people and join societies that were all culturally and intellectually diverse. As you live on campus during your first year, you are bound to meet so many people, and the fairs and activities that the university sets up encourage this! My favourite thing about Warwick is the campus, it is so familiar yet always changing! I loved getting to know the campus during my first year and finding my go-to study spots, but also admiring the new architecture. There are countless renovations and projects that make it feel like the university is really putting their money and effort back into you! What I really enjoy at Warwick is also the community. As most of its courses are highly ranked, you are surrounded by typically like-minded people, and the lecturers, coming from all over the world, bring their unique viewpoint to the subject, something that I believe is rare at other university. In Psychology, what really drew me in was the emphasis on research and building these skills. I have had the opportunity to participate in a few research schemes, that are not only career-building, but also truly innovatory in my field!

This uni is okay if you’re more focused on the night life and student events. The bar is quite good, the uni club quite standard. I was more interested in the societies the uni had to offer and there will be many that may accommodate your interests.
