When I applied to Kent and firmed it, I had a lot of mixed reactions from teachers and peers telling me I could ‘do better’, or apply somewhere with higher entry grades. This implied to me that Kent wasn’t necessarily a research-based university, that it wasn’t as beneficial to attend as a Russell Group university. However, my experience at Kent has massively disproved these naysayers. The university, and specifically the department of Arts and Humanities, has been nothing but supportive and nurturing in my time at the uni. The department host specific events, interview alumni and professionals, and send out regular emails to boost student’s employability and experience during their time studying. Whilst my contact hours are not as laborious as friends attending Russell Groups, the time spent in lectures and seminars has still been refreshing, and the independent study time has worked perfectly for me and my lengthy reading lists! As someone coming from a grammar school background, I was largely burn-out academically and wanted to regain control of my studies – Kent allowed me to do this. Furthermore, the resources available here are outstanding. The library is absolutely huge and I’ve spent too many hours there!! I believe Kent is the best choice for undergrads looking to gain a respectable degree, whilst enjoying their time studying and growing both professional and personal connections.

Help is always provided by professors and lecturers when needed in a time efficient manner and done so in a thorough manner. Overall the environment is great for academics and for socialisation.
