A Positive Uni Experience

I am currently a first year studying Public Relations and Media at CCCU.

So far my uni experience has been predominantly positive. However, I have found that the technical support within the Uni has been very disappointing. After I confirmed my place at CCCU I discovered that I was enrolled on a combined honours course whereas I wanted to be in PR and Media single honours. So I requested to change course on the 24th of August. This process should’ve been quick and simple, but it ended up being a very stressful time for me. I was passed around departments within the Uni, each time having to explain the whole situation, and each time them not being able to help me with my request. I felt like no one in the Uni knew how to help me. In the end, it took a month and a half for me to be put onto my desired course and this is all down to my lecturers. I cannot fault them as they were the only people that pushed for what I wanted (to change course) to be actioned.

Alongside this, I have found the lecturers to be very kind and welcoming as well as clear and helpful during my time at Uni. I feel very confident in the change from A-levels to Uni because of their teaching. They have repeatedly expressed that ‘there are no stupid questions and because of this, I feel able to ask anything to aid my education.

I have been very pleased with timetabling at CCCU, I have 6 hours of seminars on a Monday and 3 hours on a Friday. This is perfect as it allows me to work part-time alongside my studies. Although I have to note not all timetables are this good, my flatmate often finishes her lectures at 7 pm (which I think is quite late). However, I cannot comment on whether this is an unusual practice for a Uni.

The Uni offers a wide range of sports clubs and societies all at a very affordable price. The Uni encourages participating in these alongside a strong emphasis on mental health and support. At CCCU there is a wide support network from your academic tutor, counsellors, the pastor etc.

The final, and the most prominent thing about studying at CCCU for me is that employability is embedded in the course content. This has allowed me to have a deeper understanding of possible career paths, what skills employers are looking for and in the meantime how I can supplement my CV to make myself more desirable. Alongside this, I have found the careers and employability staff/department a fantastic aid and resource.

I would strongly look into considering studying at CCCU, especially as they cover some more unusual subject areas than a lot of well-known Unis.
