What is a Management degree?

A Management degree builds a strong foundation in a wide variety of fields including business, finance, economics and marketing. It develops students’ understanding of business practices, structures, business theory, business strategy and research as well as global economies and financial markets. Doing a Management Degree also allows students to gain skills that enable them to work with financial and numerical data effectively.

Management degrees cover different managerial roles, such as Human Resource (HR) management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. They can be specialized into one of the areas mentioned above or follow a more general approach that covers most of these areas.

The range of management degrees is huge and includes Business Management, Management, Marketing Management, etc. They are predominantly offered in the business departments/business schools/management schools of different universities.

Benefits of a Management degree

One of the main benefits of this degree is that Management is a broad discipline, which keeps students’ career options open.

Management degrees could have a very practical focus, which is an opportunity for students to gain experience in the process of completing their degree before having started their professional careers. Management courses usually offer work placements and practical modules, which include business simulations and business creation in a simulated environment. Acquiring practical experience through these opportunities could make students stand out from the crowd in the job market once they graduate. Research-oriented Management degrees also exist for those who prefer the theoretical aspects of such a degree. Most courses, however, have established a good balance between theory and practice in order to meet the needs of all students.

Management degrees also prepare students to serve the managerial role across a wide range of areas, including HR management, hospitality management, innovation management, operations management, etc. Students can specialize in one particular area or focus on gaining knowledge across all of these areas thanks to the high availability of different management courses.

Additionally, there is a high demand for management professionals in the contemporary business world. Therefore, taking a management course is an opportunity for students to kick-start their careers and occupy a higher position in the organizational hierarchy.

management degree Structure

Management courses usually begin by introducing students to different areas covered by the managerial role, such as organizational management, business environment, statistics, accounting and finance, business growth, etc. After the first year, institutions allow students to explore the management discipline into more depth by delivering specialized modules and offering optional modules, which enable students to choose subjects that interest them the most and are most relevant to their career aspirations.

    BSc Business

Studying BSc Business at the University of Bath has been a transformative experience. Coming into first year, I wasn’t sure what to expect but the course quickly proved to be dynamic, hands-on and incredibly well designed. Modules like Data Analysis and People & Organisations have helped me build both analytical and creative thinking, while the interactive seminars make it easy to apply what we learn to real-world business cases.

What’s stood out the most is the focus on career readiness. From the very first semester, we’ve had exposure to placement planning, CV workshops and employer talks. I’ve already felt encouraged to think about my personal brand and professional direction.

Beyond academics, the campus culture is welcoming and full of opportunities to get involved. Being part of the Bath Indian Dance Society and the Bath Business Society has helped me build friendships and develop leadership skills outside the classroom.

Overall, this course strikes the perfect balance between academic depth and practical experience. It’s ideal for students who want more than just a degree and want to grow, explore and prepare for a career with confidence.

    Decent

Semi-interesting lectures, decent level of support. The campus location is positive along with accommodation and food and drink facilities. Transportation to the city centre could be well improved but overall a good experience.

    My overall experience

The students come from very diverse backgrounds and there are many international students in the university which makes settling in the uni life a very easy process. You make friends by going to various events which are held for international students. The one problem I face is the fees structure. The fee when I started the programme was 18,000 pounds, which has now increased to 23,000 pounds in just 2 years. The university should understand that everyone went through a tough time during the pandemic and it makes the payment of the fee even more difficult. But the teaching staff is very friendly and accommodating, and help us through everything.

Teaching is good and most lecturers very helpful

Some of the classrooms/lecture rooms are worn out and most do not have plugs at desks so you cannot charge laptops etc but the teaching quality is good. lots of support from DOS and other staff regarding mental health etc and putting Into place plans to help with the study.

Great campus facilities, good student support and engaging classes

My programme (management) is very general in terms of disciplines but forms a great asset in the end.

I would recommend it to anyone who, like me, does not know what they want to do for their future but know they want to make a decent amount of money and keep as many doors open as possible.

The programme is very insightful with a nice balance of quantitative (e.g. statistic, forecasting) discursive modules (e.g. organizational behavior). Students are well supported by the academic team. The timetable is manageable and allows for an adequate amount of spare time.

    Good uni

Great university of exposure and career development. I learned how to make friends and how to move forward in life. It had been a great experience so far. Covid-19 was a bitch tho. Could’ve experienced much more in the last 4 months if it wasn’t for that

    Uni of Bath

I really enjoyed my time at the University. I studied International Management with a year abroad which allowed me to do two 6-month internships across the world. This was a big plus point for my career. The city is beautiful, not too big or small. While I was there the University was constructing a new business school which prospective students will get to enjoy. The accommodations could be improved and housing in the city is a bit limited due to increased student intake. Overall, I do recommend the University but of course being in a small city and a small University there are advantages and drawbacks.
