It makes studying here feel a lot less stressful and way more enjoyable.
View moreAs a student in Game Design and Production at Abertay University, I can honestly say this is one of the best choices I’ve ever made. Coming in excited but nervous, I was blown away by how passionate and industry-experienced the professors are—they’ve worked on real, award-winning games and actually care about pushing us to succeed. Their feedback is super specific and helpful, which has helped me level up my skills massively. What really stands out are the state-of-the-art facilities, like the huge PlayStation labs with the latest dev kits, and the hands-on projects where we build full game prototypes from scratch. Being part of interdisciplinary teams feels just like working in a real studio, and it’s incredibly rewarding! I even got to participate in the Dare Academy competition last summer—our team’s game got showcased, and it was such a thrill seeing industry pros give us feedback. Moments like that make me feel truly prepared for the industry. The campus vibe in Dundee is welcoming, and the small uni size means you get real one-on-one time with lecturer. Sure, the workload can be intense, but it’s the good kind—creative and challenging—and seeing my designs come to life is so exciting and fulfilling.
View moreOverall, I genuinely enjoy studying at this university.
The teaching quality, the curriculum, and the learning environment have been very positive for me, and I appreciate the effort that most staff put into supporting students.
However, I would like to provide feedback about one aspect of my experience that has significantly affected my wellbeing and confidence.
During the handling of an academic misconduct allegation, I felt that the process lacked clarity and consistency. I was not shown clear evidence for the accusation, and I did not feel that I was given a fair opportunity to explain my work before a decision was made. This made the situation extremely stressful for me, especially as an international student who is still adapting to a new country and academic culture.
I was also concerned by the difference in how similar cases involving other students were treated. This inconsistency, along with some comments made about international students’ language abilities, made me feel uncomfortable and unsupported at a time when I needed clarity and guidance.
This experience has unfortunately overshadowed what has otherwise been a very positive academic journey. I hope that the university will reflect on how such situations are handled, so that future students do not feel the same distress and uncertainty.
