Student review [#12929] for Business and Administration
at Wageningen University

Wageningen University is a great place to study agricultural and food science. However, if you are looking for business, economics and management related subjects, I would NOT recommend this university. I had a horrible experience in writing my thesis in the department of Social science, more specific the chair of BMO (business management and organisation). I have never seen such high conflict of interest among the professors and researchers inside an organisation: all the professors just don’t talk to each other or disagree with each other; if a student has two supervisors, then the student can’t proceed in writing the thesis because the professors just can’t agree between them for the topic chosen by the student; if there is a complaint from student or other external people, they just don’t care at all.
I spent 7 horrible months in the department of BMO writing my thesis. I was assigned a supervisor who never replied to my emails. I only had two meeting of 10 minutes with him during my whole thesis writing without getting any feedback for my thesis. Finally, i had even to delay my graduation for few months at my own expenses because i didn’t get authorisation to defend my thesis from my supervisor (he never replies to emails) and I couldn’t reach him (by email or in person as he was never in the office).
Eventually, I even got the lowest mark (6) for my thesis. I reported these malpractices to the Board of university. Hopefully, the board recognised the seriousness of this problem and took action to increase the mark of my thesis for a little bit.
I reported these malpractices also to the chairman of BMO department where i spent time writing my thesis, as this experience wasted my time and the result of my study could have negative impact on my future career. He apologized for this experience and promised to provide me support (like suggestions for PhD, letter of recommendation for job or Phd…). However, a month later, I wrote him a few email asking for what he promised, and I never got any replies from him. This shows the lack of reliability and respect of the professors and people working inside this department.
Unfortunately, I also saw a few of my friends who had bad experience in this department.
All in all, Wageningen University is considered the best place to study agri-food and biotechnology sciences, but not in the field of management and economics. I would suggest you to keep away from chair group of Business Management and organisation because they are not believable.
