The university is very big and there’s a lot of green on campus. There are multiple houses and rooms on campus. The professors speak decent English and understand their topics. The university spends a lot of time on personal development making sure you have more than a degree. The student life in the city is great and there are four big student associations located in the ‘Pakkerij’. Next to that there are dozens of study, sport and cultural associations.
The University of Twente is not a very big university, but that gives it a more personal environment. There isn’t this big gap between professors and students, you can just approach them and for example just call them by their first name. You’re not just another student.
The university campus is also nice. It has all kinds of facilities close together and a very green environment.
My experience in UT for the past 3years has been inspiring.Since I found my first masters year in a technical programme was very tough and not compatible with my undergraduate studies, I decided to switch to an interesting programme offered by UT in the communication and social sciences. This transition was smooth and less complicated only because of the support and advice from the faculty and counsellors of UT, who are always approachable. Besides the encouraging and helping staff, the other features of UT that need special mentioning is the various student associations and facilities on campus such as the design lab, sports centrum, vestingbar etc that allow interaction between the Dutch and international students. Moreover, the green campus and library offer a peaceful area to study and read. I would definitely recommend UT.
I spent a year at the UT, for the first year of my MSc in Mechanical Engineering.
The campus is pretty much huge, “the only american style campus in the Netherlands”, with nice facilities like gym, library with nice desks and computers, and lecture rooms with modern beamers.
The technical courses were in their majority very good, with a nice theoretical foundation and a lot of practical assignments, with not much nonsense memorizing memorizing needing, mostly focusing on you understanding what you are doing. There were a couple of exceptions. The teachers are very helpful and approachable in their majority. The non technical courses, were not so nice in my opinion, being a bit to “vague” and leaving you with a taste of “this is just common sense”.
The environment at the university is nice, with fellow students being approachable a lot of internationals, and a few events happening almost every day, inviting for a balanced social life.
My experience from UT was rewarding. I spend a semester there in 2013-2014 as an exchange student and I am mostly satisfied about the courses, facilities and teachers. Campus facilities include almost everything (modern buildings, labs, gym, climbing walls, restaurants, even a supermarket) and there are a lot of interesting courses. Sometimes courses were too demanding with many projects, presentations and deadlines but most of the teachers are really helpful and easy to find so students are relieved and rewarded in the end. In my opinion UT is reasonably among the top Dutch universities.
Although located in a peaceful city, Campus in University of Twente is dynamic with full of professional, cultural and sport events, which help students enjoy their academic life all the time. Well preserved nature around the campus creates a healthy environment for those living and studying here. Futhermore, fully equiped facility gives students best choice for both lecture and self study time.
The university is modern and provides lots of resources for the students. Moreover, it has a very diverse environment, with people from all over the world.
It maybe challenging for someone used to big cities to adapt to Enschede, but a group of new friends, from several parts of the world, will surely make you overlook that in less than a month!
I attended a professional course at the University of Twente. I liked professionalism and friendliness of the faculty, but what I really loved about university was it’s international orientation. Here you could meet faculty members and students from all over the world, which gave me an opportunity to gain cross-cultural experiences and make good friends from different countries! The University itself is situated in green area of Enschede in a modern facilities, which created very good atmosphere for studying. Loved every day in University of Twente and recommend it for more long-term studies such as Bachelors, Masters or PhD.
