I am a current Creative Business first year student and find that my course is the right balance of theory and creativity. We typically have a couple lectures a week, sometimes even guest lecturers, three ateliers a week(where you are in groups of around 15 working on the current projects) and the rest of the time is spent working on these projects. The lectures typically explain theory needed for projects and are sometimes even interactive making it engaging. The start of the course is slower and then picks up in the second year. It is also possible to change to ‘’fast track’’ meaning you study 3 years instead of 4. This is a good option to have as you are able to adjust to either a quick or slower paced course. You are able to switch to fast track once you are already in the study (end of first semester) something I am currently considering as I find the workload to be manageable. The ability to switch is a good option to have.
It is difficult adjusting to group work however these are skills that are being built up throughout the course however if you dislike group work this is not the course for you. Our groups often range from 4 to duos and the coach will often have the freedom to choose your group. It should also be noted that we change classes (so the people we spend our ateliers with) every semester ultimately allowing us to get to know and work with as many people as possible. Even though our coach, who leads our ateliers, will shift, we keep the same mentor for the first two years as a sense of stability which I like. Furthermore, you need to have initiative if you join this course as creativity requires both action and consistent effort as well as independence as learning material is often posted as individual tasks to do in your own time.
