I study at the International Teacher Education for Secondary Schools course in Meppel.
The course is really interesting with a nice mix of theory and practise. We have classes in our subject field and general teaching methodology classes, both in mostly small groups. The learning environment is really active, and our teachers are passionate and helpful.
Our campus in Meppel is quite small, only ITESS and ITEPS (International Teacher Education for Primary Schools) students study here. Despite this, our student body is very international and tight-knit, which makes the study experience even better.
A highlight of the course is the Teaching Practise we can take part in every year. This gives us a great opportunity to experience teaching in real life, all over the world. This experience is usually positive, but sometimes students have less support in the partner schools, which might make the experience harder.
Generally, my time here has mostly been positive, but there are some areas for improvement. I feel that the university and the course are sometimes disorganized in the sense of communicating expectations and assessments, which can make preparation harder.
Overall, the university and the course have small disadvantages but generally our lecturers are always there to help clear up confusion and help us. Otherwise, the course is really enjoyable and diverse making it a pleasant study experience.
