As a current European Studies full-time student in the 4-year stream, I am not impressed with the quality of education, nor with the level of academic or practical skills that are being put into practice. The procedures taking place in THUAS (De Haagse Hogeschool) are always bureaucratic and messy, but I assume any big organisation faces this problem if not managed correctly. What I can testify for being the best is that very few lecturers stand out and make a huge difference as of their truly outstanding attitude and passion for teaching. Some students are lucky enough to get personal coaching through assignments, given they show interest and ask questions.
The main campus is new and futuristic, making students feel at ease and many student-bodied policies are taking place continuously in order for the fellow applied scientists to feel at home and safe while in the building. There are a few cozy cafes indoors, as well as a quiet library and a few scattered study spots no one really knows about. There is always something going on, too. If you are an active person, there are plenty of student organisations for things like partying to study groups and sports. It is a cool place to learn how to adult, make friends and get your life together while figuring out what to do career-wise, but definitely not a spot for a know-it-alls. The grading criteria is different and rewards the transition to success much more than a long term effort for an instant one-time brilliant result. That is the main difference between Universities of Applied Sciences and Research ones.
