EHL is a world-renowned hospitality management school. The bachelor’s degree lasts 4 years, in which the first year, the “preparatory year” is a slightly more innovative course with operational classes such as cooking or catering. During these 4 incredible years, you have the chance to attend 2 internships wherever you decide to go in the world (I personally did my first internship at the Ritz Carlton in Montreal, an experience I will not forget). Moreover, the EHL campus is really incredible and it is also brand new, it has just been renovated. Over the 3 years of the bachelor’s degree that follows the preparatory year, you have the opportunity to explore EHL’s other campuses, such as Passugg, or Singapore (currently under construction). These 3 years are mainly focused on management and finance. In any case, if I can suggest a school in which the campus is fantastic, the social life as well and the classes are very well structured, I would recommend the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne. Not to mention that Lausanne is a very student-oriented and festive city. The opportunities after graduating from EHL are abundant and significant in the world of luxury, finance and hospitality.

This famous sentence introduced by Monsieur LAURENT, Values ambassador of École Hôtelière de Lausanne, makes all its sense as soon as you enter the school. Excellence can be experienced in every corner. This feeling comes first from the first year of the program called “année préparatoire” or preparatory year in English.

This year is one of the reasons why EHL trains the most efficient and experienced hospitality managers and businessmen. This preparatory year is designed to be open-minded in the hospitality industry. with a different workshop every week, from the kitchen, service, reception and many others, and with the help of the best hospitality professionals in the world, we are able to make the difference in the future from other managers as we have experience in every domain. After this year and an internship, the bachelor program will start.

After experiencing how the school is designed to help their students during the preparatory year with departments to help us write our CV, for example, we realise during the bachelor program that the help from the school does not stop here… An example is that in every topic, student assistants are organizing every week recap sessions to help everyone understand more in-depth the lessons. The availability of the teachers is also very impressive. It is possible to reach them through the online platform from the school or by email. Classic for a university you will say, however, at EHL, it is also possible to have private meetings with any teachers anytime and anywhere at school or online!

If we had to find one reason for the success of the students graduating from École Hôtelière de Lausanne, it would certainly be the help from the school in any important domains, in addition to more than 35 student committees that bring students together. This big family is the key to keeping EHL the best hospitality management school in the world.

I love how fast-paced the academic program is as it motivates me to stay focused, motivated, and excited for learning. The facilities are impeccable and the students are extremely open to introducing each other and connecting. The student body is not too large or small, and the feeling of being part of a community is a major element of being an EHL student. The classes cover many subjects and go quite deep. I have heard students that find it extremely challenging to stay on top of the work, but I personally find it as a motivating challenge.

EHL as an institution offers an excellent learning environment, where it not only allows the student to gain various hard and soft skills and grow as a person. When discussing with former students, it is possible to see a vast difference in maturity compared to other university students. Taking the words of the university slogan, EHL is a business school that teaches discipline.

As the bachelor programmes emphasize the importance of practical experience, students learn about the hospitality industry as a whole. Within the preparatory year, students rotate around the various outlets within the campus, from working at the school cafeteria to cleaning the dorms. The professors are industry insiders with a great understanding of hospitality with state-of-the-art facilities. Although physically arduous, students learn how to work within a dynamic environment that offers a learning process like no other school.

Furthermore, the university offers excellent career prospects with the two long-term internships integrated into its programme. In a sense, the school’s beauty lies in that students acquire skills that can be transferred to other industries. More than half of the students end up working outside of hospitality. In this manner, students are not chained down to one specific path and can always change.

As for student life, it is very easy to get active with the variety of extra-curricular programmes on offer. With a multitude of nationalities that are represented, the school has a diverse student body, and it will be possible to meet people from across the world.

Although I have had a very positive experience, it is certainly not a school for everyone. As EHL offers a specific learning environment, students get a unique university experience. With only one bachelor programme on offer, everyone will know each other by the end of their studies. With such a small student body, it almost feels like an extension of high school at times. Moreover, with the school being located on the outskirts of Lausanne, there is not much interaction with other university students. In a certain manner, EHL students are in a bubble.

However, I would still recommend that any students consider EHL as it offers a way of thinking that no other universities can offer. By the end of their studies, students will rapidly integrate into society and become part of a valuable alumni network.

The program emerges you into a work-based environment from the first six months on. The main aim of our university is to give us all the tools we need in order to thrive in the industry we chose in the future. Being surrounded by 90 different nationalities not only gives us a sense of cultural sensitivity but also teaches us many communications skills with different cultures. The program mainly focuses its evaluations built around group projects, which allows young students like myself to voice their opinion. EHL strongly defends its values throughout the four years of studies; Family, Innovation, Excellence, Learning and Respect.

Since the moment I arrived here, I sincerely have loved it. The atmosphere is so sociable and joyous. There is such kindness and amicability around the place. The networking is incredible and the opportunities available are truly once in a lifetime. The course is very enjoyable and immersive. The hands-on approach and face-to-face classes are incredibly efficient. The campus right now is extremely nice but slightly cramped, however with the new campus expansion unveiling right around the corner, I feel like EHL will return to its natural excellence.

I will not be lying if I say EHL has become my second home. EHL offers numerous opportunities to give you excellent preparation for your future career: different committees help you to get involved in student life and increase your critical thinking. Through the operational and administrative internships that students will be doing throughout the four years, you will be able to put into practice what you have learned within the classroom. This is the best chance to show your can-do attitude. Hence, you never stop learning.

EHL’s student life is fantastic! Students are very open-minded and gentle, and professors never hesitate to help you. Also, you never get tired of eating around here: the different outlets such as Food Court, Finger Food, Grab’n Go, MBar, BDS Restaurant, Bistro, Sushi Restaurant and so on give you an excellent opportunity to catch up with your friends or even get to know some new people. I highly recommend EHL.
