A university with lasting memories

I had many plans and dreams when I arrived at EHL Hospitality Business School almost four years ago. My goal was to one day open my hotel.
I started with the preparatory year (AP), which takes place on the Lausanne campus and includes around 20 different workshops, covering everything from cooking and service to housekeeping and reception. It was an interesting and formative experience. Divided into small classes, I quickly got to know my classmates, with whom I spent most of my time between classes, group projects, and free time. Most students choose to live on campus during their first year, which makes it easier to meet people and build a community. During the second part of the preparatory year, I did an internship at a 5-star hotel in Germany, aiming to improve my German. I did a cross-training program between housekeeping, the wellness centre, and the front desk. I could apply what I learned on campus in a professional, rigorous and friendly environment. I learned to work in a team and adapt to customer requests. This first year has taught me a lot and given me an overview of the jobs required in a hotel, which will help me to be a good manager in the future.
When I came back from Germany, I continued my studies in the French section. I studied new subjects that I found fascinating, such as accounting, Russian, and operations management. We worked on real-life examples during our classes, sometimes even in collaboration with companies. We organized our time between classes, tutoring sessions, group projects, homework, and revision.
We have around 30 committees on campus, allowing us to meet students from other years. For example, I have great memories of a “Murder Mystery Night” organized by the Spotlight committee.
During my studies at EHL Hospitality Business School, I also had the opportunity to join the Ambassador program, which has been highly beneficial. I get to give campus tours to prospective students and visitors, participate in the selection process, and help at events such as the Career Fair and the Open Day. These were unique networking opportunities. I was able to improve my English, my stress management, and, above all, my oral expression. I then did a second internship in a hotel in Washington DC, which allowed me to improve my English further and gain experience in administration. It was an incredible experience to compare the working styles of the two hotels where I worked and to learn to work in a different environment.
After my internship in the United States, I started a position as Student Assistant in the Sales Events department at EHL. I helped organize four Open Days, each welcoming around 1,200 participants. Thanks to this opportunity, I learned how to manage my time better and coordinate the schedules and training sessions of a team of around 70 Ambassadors.
During my final year, some of the courses were taught in English. For the last semester, I had to choose three courses to specialize in: Strategic Hotel Investments, Hotel Real Estate, and Mergers & Acquisitions. These were part of the finance module, consisting of seven weeks of intensive courses with challenging but formative projects.
I am currently working with five other students on our final bachelor’s project, which is a consulting project for a company.
I highly recommend this bachelor’s degree in International Hospitality Management, which has brought me a lot, both academically and personally.
