Worse than expected

Taking into account that this university is considered in Spain the top one for anyone with an engineering background, you find it disappointing from the very first day. It would not be fair to generalize since there are exceptions to my opinion. Thanks to a couple of excellent teachers that I found that tried to provide practical and interesting classes.

First of all, it is full of plenty of many minicamps with no relation among them. This makes a bad impression of it when you start studying there. Every speciality has its own facilities and is far one from another one. Actually, is quite easy to get lost over there since the whole university does not have any convention centre or hub. No university atmosphere, only a few free-time spaces and a reduced number of activities. So, If you are looking a place to socialize or to take up activities out of the classes this uni is not for you. Also, It is worth mentioning the university is not ready yet to Erasmus or international students. What you can find so far are non-English speaking teachers and poor and improvised plans which no revelation and interest.

Secondly, all the classrooms are from the 19th century as the professors who teach there. Most of them are not there because of their academic background or achieves but because of their friendship or familiar relationship with others teachers. Also, the study methods are oldfashioned, with no relation to new technologies. In my situation, I finished my degree, prior “Technical Architect”, today called “Building Engineer” without having learned any CAD skill from any subject.

Thirdly, the studies plan does not suit the labour demands since half of the subjects are only to fulfil the academic plan and to justify the number of hours dedicated to the degree. No personal attention during the classes, where It is very likely to find up to 120 pupils for only one teacher. This makes the classes run slowly and the teacher rushes to provide the whole material.

In conclusion, If I were you I would compare the different options you can find in Madrid for the degree you have chosen, no matter If they are private or public. In the long run, the most important thing is to study with methods and technologies as close as possible to the real world you will find afterwards.
