The Universidad de Sevilla requires you a lot, so you need to be prepared to suffer at some (many) points. At least, that is my experience in one of its schools, the ETSI, where I study Aerospace Engineering. Indeed, the degree I study is not easy, but some subjects have more difficulty than they should, so they can make you get anxious. But overcoming these difficulties can get the best version of yourself. Also living in a city with so much life and joy as Sevilla can help you disconnect when you need it.
View moreI have spent five years studying aerospace engineering in Seville. The level is so high and teachers are well prepared for almost every topic and subject. It seems to me that the degree needs an extra knowledge branch more focused in space and space vehicles due to the university only offer three different branches about civil and military aviation.
On the other hand, the location of the engineering school is not the best. It is far from everywhere and near to a lot of offices without a university environment.
View moreThe University of Seville has several degrees and departments. Focus on the ETSI (Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería), it includes many types of enginnering degrees, but its location has a bad place in my opinion, because people need to go there by car, bus (linea C1-C2 is the unique that take you there) or bike, because ETSI is away from many places of the city.
Focusing in Aerospace Engineering (at ETSI) I could say that it could be one of the most difficult degrees in Spain, but, during the season, ETSI offers you several activities which you can participate, so you can know several things about the Aeroespace Area here in Seville.
In contrast, I would like to tell that Seville is a beautiful city and if you study here you really fall in love with the city and its residents.
View moreI studied for my bachelor’s in aerospace engineering at the Engineering school of the University of Sevilla. It was the worst experience of my life. Professors are exceptionally good at their field however they are lousy teachers. They try to increase their ego thinking that as more student fails their subject the better professors they are. It is not strange to fail the same subject for 3 consecutive years.
Of course, this is my personal experience and I do not know about other faculties. But in general, I think It is an old-fashioned university, with old school professors that need to modernize their teaching methods. In general, the teaching program is super theoretical with so few practice sessions. Thus once you finish your studies you have 0 knowledge about the real world of work. Moreover is very common to have a feeling of inferiority because during a lot of years you have failed every single exam or you have heard how professors insulted you and laughed at you.
It is also weird that you can finish your bachelor’s without expending extra years on that university. Something that is very profitable for the university itself because every year that you have to register to a subject that you have fails you have to pay double of taxes than the previous year.
As a result, you acquire a huge knowledge about lots of different fields thus you become a great professional but not thanks to the university nor their professors but because of the huge amount of time that you will invest in the library or looking for understandable notes in Wuolah. However not everything is bad, your classmates will help you always giving you material that will help you to survive in that place.
Moreover, the location of the university is not so good since is isolated from the rest of the city so there are no bars or shops around. However, Sevilla is a wonderful city that I truly love. People are always friendly and welcoming. The weather is great so sitting in a Terraza is amazing at any season. Bars are also good and cheap and in conclusion, Sevilla is a very comfortable city to live in.
View moreI studied the bachelor’s degree and part of the master’s degree in aerospace engineering at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería and, after all these years, I can say that although I have learned a lot, they have been some of the hardest years of my life. Choosing this university depends on what you are willing to sacrifice to pass the exams.
View moreDo you feel like you want to be laughed at, to go the most far away location possible in the city, to fight against people that don’t like teaching but refuse to leave, and with no campus life outside the library? Well, then this is your place. At least you can make friends.
View moreThe teaching has allowed me to grow professionally but I consider the classes and the lecturers selection quite deficient. Professors are selected in terms of the research they can provide instead of the teaching quality.
View moreThe ETSI (Ecuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería) is placed in the University of Seville, in Spain. It is a really big engineering school where students can choose among 8 different bachelor’s degrees and around 5 different master’s degrees.
The aerospace and aeronautical engineering degrees (bachelor’s and master’s respectively) are really harsh. Professors have a really high level of exigence and the time is reduced so a big capacity of organisation and implication are required.
Nevertheless, I think that, if you make it through the first two years of the bachelor’s, you will be able to finish it, maybe in more years than expected, but still feasible. And, most importantly, you get the capacity of solving problems in a way that they won’t teach you elsewhere.
One of the best things that it has is the location. It is placed in Seville, a wonderful city where to live, and especially if you are a student.
So, to sum up, if you’re up to “suffering” and dedicating your time to studying waiting for good compensation, this is your place.
View moreThe Engineering School of the University of Seville gives you a lot of opportunities when it comes to orientating yourself in the professional world, taking part in university life by joining clubs and interesting projects, and making the student closer to the industry.
However, I would not qualify their teaching methods as the best to meet your objectives, learn and pass the final exams. Most of the professors are not close to the students and do not give much advice on how to conduct their subject and how to make the most of it.
It is a pity that a university that delivers a lot of opportunities to their students is shaded by their impossibility to make them reachable and affordable to them as well since the time dedicated to studies does not leave the place to conduct other projects.
I have learned a lot of things during these years at the University of Seville, but there are a lot of things to do better, starting with the teaching methods and giving space for the students to raise their voices (and for them to be listened to).
Although the University of Sevilla is spread in the city, I will talk about my experience at ETSI.
The classes are really theoretical and normally teachers have old methods (this doesn’t apply to the specific aerospace subjects) but on the other side, several clubs can be found on the university where soft and hard skills can also be developed and also some sports teams that even compete in EAGs at Toulouse every year.
The library is really nice, although it gets full early.
Social life around this specific campus is 0 but using only one bus line you can get to other campuses as Viapol plenty of bars and students.
Where to live? everywhere near to lines C1 or C2 are recommended, although Macarena or Triana are the most popular neighbourhoods.
