Firstly, the university was called the Escuela Politécnica Superior, initiated by Father José María Arizmendiarrieta in 1943.
Mondragon University came to be in 1997 through the contribution of three cooperatives, co-funded by the Mondragon Corporation, namely: Mondragon Goi Eskola Politeknikoa “Jose Mª Arizmendiarrieta” S. Coop., ETEO S. Coop., and Irakasle Eskola S. Coop. The purpose of creating the university was to initiate an institution that would satisfy the need to deepen business concepts and gain knowledge in this field. This university has been remarked in the landscape of Spanish private universities since 1997.
The educational model of the university is based on innovation, solidarity, humanism, and cooperation. By keeping it as a non-profit organisation, the university facilitates students’ access to business education, depending on the economic situation of each. Thus, students can take part in one of the study programmes of the Faculty of Business Studies, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Gastronomic Sciences, acquiring new skills and knowledge in the field in which they want to specialise.
Analysing statistics for study programmes, it can be seen that the university had about 4,000 students attending faculty courses in February 2016.
In terms of accommodation, the students benefit from the support of the International Office in order to stay in one of the campuses related to their faculty: Business – Oñati Campus, Engineering – Arrasate – Mondragon Campus, and Humanities and Education – Eskoriatza – Aretxabaleta Campus.
Each university building is equipped with computers, audiovisual facilities, and WiFi. Also, for the recreation of the students, there are many sports facilities that help them escape from their everyday routine.
There are numerous scholarships and grants that Mondragon University students can receive, such as: grants for students, grants and scholarships for international students, and work and study grants.

I really think Mondragon Unibertsitatea is creating new degrees regarding the future and actual necessities of the world, not only centered in the markets but the social needs of different countries.
