Studying Mechanical Engineering here isn’t abstract; it’s happening right outside your lab window.
That proximity to industry shapes everything about the program. Labs are well-equipped, and the connection to companies like Hyundai means coursework often ties directly into real manufacturing and engineering challenges, not just textbook problems. Professors expect precision — Korean engineering culture doesn’t really do “close enough,” and that pushed me to be far more rigorous in both analysis and lab work than I expected going in.
The workload is intense. Long hours in the lab, high expectations on deadlines, and a research culture that values discipline over flexibility—it took adjustment. But that same intensity is what makes the technical skills you walk away with genuinely solid, not just theoretical.
Life outside the lab took effort too—the language barrier is real if you’re not fluent in Korean, though the international office and fellow grad students helped bridge that gap. Ulsan won’t dazzle you like Seoul, but it gives you focus, and for an engineering degree, that’s exactly what you need.
