What is a Psychology Degree?

Psychology is the favourite science for students who want to get into the depths of human feelings. This is considered to be the science of mind and behaviour. More specifically, psychology wants to explore the way people think, act, and feel, by appealing to the emotional side of people.

Passion can lead students to choose this specialisation. It is not considered a difficult one, but it is not very easy to approach, as the theoretical elements of the discipline are combined with the practical ones.

After studying Psychology, students choose to specialise in a particular sub-field. Depending on their preference, they can choose between Biological Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Comparative Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Personality Psychology and many others.

Benefits of a Psychology Degree

Psychology is a great opportunity to get to know each other better and to get to know others. Thus, students who are looking to understanding human behaviour, feelings and mind gain an inside vision of what these notions really mean and what determines people to make certain decisions and act under different circumstances.

The employment rate among Psychology graduates has grown in recent years. Salaries are satisfactory, and young people can focus either on psychological services in schools, hospitals, treatment centres, clinics, depending on the specialisation chosen. Furthermore, Psychology graduates can integrate a career in social media, marketing, and advertising, as they understand best the reasons why people choose to make decisions according to what they see in real life.

Psychology Degree Structure

In the four years of Bachelor studies, graduates acquire the necessary knowledge to practice Psychology, initially learning the underlying theoretical notions. These notions become an important starting point in their career, seeing later how practice blends very well with theory. It should be noted that on the labour market, students who hold a Bachelor’s degree are much more appreciated and have an advantage over those who follow simple courses.

A Master’s program usually lasts between 2 and 3 years, coming as a complement to the Bachelor’s courses. Master courses have a much more loaded curriculum and a great deal of information. A Doctoral program is dedicated to students who want to do research in Psychology in various institutes or to become teachers. This has a duration of between 5 and 7 years.

    The experience

This university is cheaper than most universities in South Africa. It is convenient because it’s online and flexible. It caters for students all over the world too. I also like the support from the lecturers and staff members. There are many support groups among different social media platforms so you never feel alone.

    Good experience

I had a really good experience with the university. There was room for growth both personally and academically and I achieved that. I felt supported throughout my studies. Doing everything online was comfortable and I didn’t struggle with anything. I would recommend the university to others.

    The university programme options

As much I enjoy being a unisa student there are some challenges that pose issues to growth. I love the way unisa uses their end of course surveys to continually improve corse coordination and tailoring some programmes to meet students needs in terms practical modules and meeting various board requirement. It’s distance nature sometimes or maybe its specific lecturers I’m not certain, tend to be distant in terms of providing the one to one individual consulatations. This definitely contributes to students not reaching their full potential.

    Flexible learning

The university offers flexible learning as it is not an incontact institution. It allows students to be able to do things at their own pace, helping juggle work and studies. I would redo this experience over and over again. Lecturers would have sessions to help support students and the university would sometimes host events.

    UNISA provides a convenient, flexible.

This is one of the most populated universities in South Africa. The University is somewhat affordable to the middle-class families. The establishment seems to care more about the money aspect rather than the individual.

    UNISA’s Education for All

UNISA offers affordable and flexible online distance learning to full-time and part-time students, that has recently adopted a hybrid model that caters to high school graduates and full-time employees. This means that most courses now offer lectures, lecture materials and recordings to bridge the gap for high schoolers, while still catering to those running on a different schedule!

Lecturers and tutors are available and communicate often through announcement portals and emails to support students in their learning. Lectures are clear, informative and interactive, ensuring no student is left behind despite the large class sizes, resulting in a caring student culture that goes the extra mile through WhatsApp groups for assistance and clarity on due dates, missed announcements and other key information! I personally enjoy the freedom to study on my own terms, through quality study guides, lectures and support from the university and students. I highly recommend it if you are an independent learner that can take responsibility for your own time management and pedagogical success but remember, you will have plenty of support if you need it. Good luck with your applications!

    Academic prestige

UNISA is just crazily good. I was astounded by the breadth of services and opportunities on this campus when I first arrived. I had the impression that anything was possible because of the vast libraries and the bright brains I came across. Even though the demanding academic programs challenged me, the network of classmates, teachers, and student services kept me on course.

    Overwhelmed but Excited

As you step onto the campus of your new university for the first time, a mix of emotions can overwhelm you. Excitement and anticipation blend with nervousness and uncertainty. The unfamiliar surroundings and sea of new faces can be daunting, making you wonder if you’ll find your place. Yet, amidst the uncertainty, a spark of hope and possibility ignites, urging you to explore, learn, and grow.

    Personal Experience

Although UNISA is a distance learning institution, we have attentive and highly professional lectures who are always willing to assist in what the student might be having issues with and you might mistake them to supportive staff because they know their way around every department and therefore refer you as quick as possible.

I dislike admin staff for Master`s and Doctorate level as they take time to respond to students enquiries.
