My experience studying History of Art at North-West University was deeply enriching and professionally formative. The programme stands out for its rigorous academic foundation combined with meaningful practical opportunities. I appreciated how the curriculum encouraged critical engagement with visual culture while also offering chances to apply learning in real gallery and exhibition settings.
What I liked most was the accessibility and dedication of the faculty. Lecturers like Dr Combrink and Dr Conradie-Chetty, were not only knowledgeable but actively supportive, often providing mentorship beyond the classroom. The department frequently integrated students into departmental events, exhibitions, and even professional projects—such as the Momentum Aardklop exhibition, which I co-curated as an Honours student.
The university’s gallery and art spaces served as living classrooms, where I volunteered and assisted with installations, visitor engagement, and administrative tasks. This hands-on exposure was invaluable and directly prepared me for roles in museum education and curation.
I would highly recommend North-West University to any student passionate about the arts. The programme equips you with both theoretical depth and practical skills, fostered within a collaborative and supportive academic community. It’s an environment where you can truly grow as a scholar and a professional in the visual arts sector.
