Studying Medical Engineering at UPB has been a mixed experience. While I’ve had the chance to learn and grow in a demanding field, the journey has been full of frustration, disrespect and disappointment caused by major issues in the system.
One of the most upsetting moments was during my final exam, when the committee announced my final grade as 9.50, only for the platform to later show 9.49, due to a rounding policy that was never clearly communicated. I was told “this is how the system works,” and no one took real responsibility for the confusion.
Throughout the years, I’ve met young, motivated professors who truly care and do their best to teach and support students. But sadly, I’ve also encountered professors who grade unfairly, ignore students, and treat teaching with disinterest or even contempt. These issues are well known by the faculty leadership, but nothing changes. The general message is “get over it and move on.”
If you’re strong, self-motivated, and ready to push through a lot of noise and discouragement, you can still succeed. But be prepared: you’ll often feel that respect, fairness, and academic integrity are optional – not guaranteed.
I wish things were better, because the students deserve more.
