The passion for technology can lead you to choose the specialisation of Computer Science. This field has become increasingly popular in recent years, the development being so rapid that people are trying to keep up with it.
A Computer Science degree deals with the theoretical and practical foundations of information technology and computers. The scientific part merges with the practical one in various algorithms, information processing or in computational models. This specialisation often aims to study methodological processes, making representations on a computer, storage, or accessing information.
At the same time, the study of Computer Science focuses on the learning of programming languages, which are extremely important for any student. Python, C ++, Java are just a few of the programming languages that are explored in depth by students in order to solve the applications received from the faculty. Furthermore, on the labour market, programming languages are highly appreciated and integrated, being a useful tool for optimal performance of industries.
The most important skill that young people learn following this degree is the use of programming languages. Once they grasp the logic of programming, they will easily be able to master the languages and build or develop WEB applications. Additional skills that are acquired can be: network design and engineering, software engineering, multimedia design. In addition, classical skills such as teamwork, leadership, problem-solving or time management are also gained by students.
According to recent studies, 6 of the 10 best jobs chosen by graduates are linked to Computer Science. These include Web Design, Computer Support Specialist, IT Operations Technician or Database Administrator. Moreover, the employment rate is favourable to the students, being over 70%. Due to the rapid advancement of technology, it is expected that the supply will grow in the future, requiring computer science specialists in any field.
To study Computer Science, students can either pursue university courses or follow courses online, depending on their availability and income. Online or outside-university courses include disciplines such as: Information Systems Management, Game Programming, Web Development, Network Fundamentals. They usually have a duration of 2 years. Although these courses provide important skills in this specialisation, students may be disadvantaged when competing with a student who has a Bachelor’s Degree. Some of the most important campuses in the world include Penn State World Campus, University of Massachusetts, Lowell (The Division of Online Learning and Continuing Education), Saint Leo University.
The Bachelor in Computer Science lasts around 3 to 4 years, depending on the university. Throughout the programme, students acquire mathematical knowledge, theoretical and practical foundation in programming. Some of the subjects discussed are: Computer Programming, Data Structures, Databases, Algorithms, Linear Algebra, Probability Theory or Statistics. These vary according to the curriculum of the university.
A Master’s program complete the students’ necessary career skills. In this way, they have a greater understanding of computing softwares, tools, packages, and computer architecture.
There are Master programs that can be followed even by those who have not undertaken undergraduate studies in Computer Science, such as those offered at the University of Birmingham for example. These programs can take either 2 to 5 years.
A PhD program is especially dedicated to those who want to research or become university professors and can last between 4 to 5 years.
In my opinion I think it is a good university. I like that there are always many opportunities such many jobs events and many competition which improve your innovation and creative capacity. My challenge would be for international student. there are no many social events which allow international and national students to interact.
View moreThe courses are mostly outdated but in my field, those are the basics that are great to have to understand newer technologies. The laboratories have good equipment and great professors that explain anything you didn’t understand during the courses. The opportunities are many and in very different fields. I missed a few exams because I was constantly travelling to hackathons and other contests like this. If you are involved in everything this university has to offer you’ll know what you like and you’ll most probably have a good-paying job before even finishing your studies.

The place is fine, oldish but with a small modern touch (certain aspects in terms of infrastructure and teaching materials could be improved though).
The food is cheap and great. The accommodation is also nice even though sometimes some technical problems may appear.
Overall a good university, if you want to study engineering in Romania, it’s definitely the best option. The teaching methods and materials are a bit outdated. Here you’ll find other people interested in your field and you’ll make important connections that will help in your career.

View moreI believe the UPB is the best technical university of the country and the best way to get an engineer diploma and also have the knowledge to back it up. Even though there are some “old-school” professors, who aren’t always the most open-minded and don’t always have the most up-to-date teaching methods, there are also the “bright stars” that make the whole experience worthwhile.

At the end you will probably use 10% of what you learned in real life but at least it prepares you for task management and stressful situations
This university really prepares you for getting your first job (hard homework, topic subjects, hard practice tests). Here, you don’t have so much free time if you want good grades, but i think that it’s worth the sacrifice.
View moreI chose this university because it is ranked as one of the best in Romania. I ended the second year, and if after the first year I was still energetic and enthusiastic about college, now things have changed, the difficulty has grown a lot in year 2. The homework become more and more difficult and the laboratories became more challenging. As a good thing I would say that you get used to the hard work and the deadlines that doesn’t seem to end, but you will be surrounded by many people who will understand you and will help you, you will learn that team work is very important, you will have a great campus and if you choose life at dorm you will not regret it. Living at the dorms is not just about parties at this faculty, if you stay in the dorms, you find colleagues who can help you with a subject that you didn’t understand very well and that will make your life at college much easier. There are also disadvantages. There are many difficult teachers, the laboramts are mostly older students, unprepared for this responsibility, there are many people well trained in the field who do not know how to share the information. The laboratories are not very well equipped, most of the equipment is old.
I would recommend this faculty because you will go through many courses and you can choose what you like the most to work in the future, also this faculty will learn you how to be your own teacher.
This university has experienced and dedicated professors with a lot of experience and involved in other activities as well. They balance the theoretical knowledge with practical applications, in computer engineering at least, and the grading is based on both theory and practical work and projects. The curriculum covers all engineering basis and an in-depth learning into your specialization. For example, for all computer sciences courses, half of the learning happens in labs based on practical homework and projects in teams.
