Those who study at UPR end up having a love/ hate relationship with the institution. It is the only public university in Puerto Rico and therefore has very close ties to the government and all the pros and cons that come with that . However , it is a historic university known for creating the most brilliant minds in the island . The community in UPR( particularly the campus located in Aguadilla)is tight knit and the professors are able to have a great mentor relationship with their students given the small size of the classes . They have a food pantry for low income students , offer great scholarships, and have free tutoring available .The only thing I will criticize is the outdated system of enrolling for classes . Many students (including myself) have gotten full blown panic attacks because of how difficult and tedious it is to enroll for classes.
Aside from that , it is a great university known to be “for the people” . Anybody who attends feels like they are a part of the very important history of Puerto Rico .
View moreOffers a great variety of programs within the Arts; Sciences; Agronomy and Engineering fields, among many others. View moreWhen I graduated high school I was so lost.
I didn’t know what I wanted, so I just entered university as a plastic arts student while I found my way.
As I met new professors, explored the campus, and experienced eye opening courses, I found my place and transferred from a bachelors in plastic arts to a bachelors in the Arts: Program of Interdisciplinary Studies. The transfer in itself was simple, easy, and did not interfere with my classes.
The interdisciplinary program at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus is a great choice for students who want to mix academic disciplines without having to make a double degree.
I mixed classes from 3 departments and in the end graduate with a bachelors in Intercultural Communications and Modern Languages in exactly 4 years.
Very competitive and known as the top university in Puerto Rico. You can sense the study mindset throughout campus, the smell and peaceful library atmosphere and the warmth of your classmates. Its Natural Sciences curriculum is extremely known in the medical industry and their Medicine School prepares prominent MD professionals. It located in the famous Rio Piedras which is very popular and fun for newbies. masters, Ph.D. and post-grad student levels.
View moreVery competitive educational experiences full of personal challenges that prepare the student for any future job and/or to continue postgraduate education. In addition, the university provides the student with other classes outside the chosen curriculum. In my case, I did a major in Biology and have the opportunity to do a minor in arts in a beautiful campus using the latest technology for learning. The UPR also gives the student the opportunity to apply for a job in one of its departments .and provides help to apply for any financial aid.
View moreI studied in Business Administration Faculty and from my perspective I had a great experience, in which I made my dreams come true. I didn’t counter any problem related to enrollment of classes (courses) or with any professor. Most of the professors were excellent, have knowledge in their area of expertise and if you have any doubt they will gladly help you. Also, the university offers a great variety of programs to choose and the opportunity to find internships and jobs to gain experience in the area you are studying.
View moreProfessors were top tier. Most buildings are in need of serious renovation. Lots of opportunities to study abroad for a semester/year. Lots of ways to work in productions in the actual university. Local goverment is screwing over prices
View moreChoosing the UPR has been one of the greatest decisions of my life! By having so many different programs, the UPR gives you the opportunity of following your dreams and finding the path that fits you best; one of the things I’m most grateful about is the fact that the university gives you a lot of options to have a professional experience and expand your knowledge.
