An Accounting & Finance degree focuses on the management of monetary resources available to an organization. Such a degree is aimed at students who want to pursue careers in investment analysis, management, banking, auditing, consulting and financial management. It teaches students how to assess the assets and liabilities of an organization financially and manage the financial risk of their activity.
Accounting & Finance covers the core areas of financial accounting, management accounting and finance but also includes other aspects of the business activity, such as financial management and control, corporate finance, company accounts, investment and business law. Optional module options provided by different universities around the world often allow students to specialize in a particular area such as auditing, taxation, etc.
The completion of an Accounting & Finance degree comes along with numerous benefits. Students develop strong analytical, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, which are highly demanded by employers in both the private and the public sector and result in graduates often finding employment in large multinational organizations that offer professional services such as PwC, KPMG and Deloitte. On top of that, established companies around the world offer excellent and well-structured graduate schemes, which help Accounting & Finance graduates to kick-start their careers.
Accounting & Finance degrees are mostly practically oriented. They allow students to put the knowledge and skills they acquire on a daily basis to practice through simulated and real-life business accounts management and work placement opportunities.
Most Accounting & Finance degrees are professionally accredited by professional bodies, such as ACCA, AIA, CIMA, ICAEW and CIPFA, which provides students with the opportunity to become chartered accountants. Students gain professional qualifications in accountancy, which eliminates the need for additional certifications after graduation.
Due to the nature of the Accounting & Finance Degree, which complements business-related subjects, students often have the opportunity to complete a joint honours degree.
An Accounting & Finance degree’s duration varies depending on the country and degree level. In some countries, such as the United Kingdom, Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting & Finance can be completed in three years. However, universities also offer students the option to take a sandwich course, which allows them to undertake a year-long placement between their second and third year, which extends the course to four years. Four years is the regular time of completion of this degree in other countries, such as the United States.
The first year of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting & Finance introduces the core principles of accounting and finance, including financial accounting, management accounting and finance as well as economics and business law. The second year’s focus is usually on managerial and business economics, financial control, corporate finance and company accounts, but optional modules might enable students to pursue their interests in other aspects of Accounting & Finance such as auditing or strategic business analysis. At this point, students studying at Higher Education Institutions in the UK could choose to take an industry placement in order to apply the theoretical concepts and the acquired knowledge to practice in the professional environment. The next stage of this degree is dedicated to further-developing students’ knowledge of financial and management accounting. Optional modules might enable students to specialize in a particular area of their choice such as auditing or taxation in some countries like the UK.
Masters’ degrees in Accounting & Finance usually take between 12 and 18 months to complete depending on the country that students choose for their studies.
Research-based degrees, such as MPhil and PhD, can take anywhere between 1 and 7 years depending on the country and type of degree. I am currently studying Finance and Accounting at Vistula University and my experience has been positive so far. The university is very diverse, with students from many different countries, which makes the environment interesting and welcoming. The program is well structured and the lecturers are supportive. I appreciate the opportunity to learn in an international setting while developing practical knowledge for my future career.
View moreStudying at the Vistula University of Finance and Business is an incredibly rewarding experience, especially thanks to its strong emphasis on practical skills and an international perspective. The university offers a wide range of programs, and my classes are taught by lecturers who share knowledge based on their experience in the real job market. What sets Vistula apart is its emphasis on international cooperation—I had the opportunity to work with colleagues from all over the world, which broadened my horizons and prepared me for a global career. The modern infrastructure of the campus, especially digital resources, facilitates remote learning. Additionally, the university’s close links with the industry create valuable opportunities for networking and internships, which gives an advantage on the job market. Although administrative processes could sometimes be more efficient, the overall atmosphere supports development, creativity, and professional readiness. I recommend Vistula to anyone who wants to combine education with career development.
View moreThe university is heading on the right direction.
Yes vista university could improve in organisation and communication but it does provide great opportunity for international students. The professors are also really interested in developing their students which is great in my opinion.
Vistula University is a top-notch institution that offers excellent education, modern facilities, and a supportive environment. The staff is dedicated to helping students succeed, and the atmosphere is friendly and encouraging.
View moreI love how lecturers accommodate the fact that us masters students have full time jobs and some are parents. We have a say in how the schedule is structured due to this. I find this very beneficial.
My only downer is that some lecturers had a hard time communicating in English and this made some classes frustrating to attend
View moreThe University is good for foreigners exotically their schedule is really nice but people working in the deans office need to have the humor to under stand students it’s very difficult or atleast it was very difficult for me when needed if there help in addition to that the queue is so crazy I recommend that more people are hired to give a quick support as it takes half a day for 2 minute task
View moreI wanted to get my student documents to apply for residence permit. I went to school and waited in the queue for 2 hours. Yes, they make students wait this long to do their work! After waiting so long, they told me that they couldn’t see me paying my tuition fees. IT HAS BEEN 1 MONTH SINCE IT WAS SENT. They checked again and found it, but this time they told me that I had to send an e-mail to get my student documents. I sent an e-mail from my personal e-mail account and then from my school e-mail account. They sent an e-mail to my personal e-mail account stating that they do not reply to personal e-mails. However, I also sent an e-mail from my school e-mail account and they did not even get back to me. I had to start my residence application process without a student certificate. In a word, a disgrace!
View moreThe lecturerers never upload results some of them so we keep repeating modules. Documents are always misplaced no proper systems sometimes of not careful you will be made to pay fees twice. No heaters no proper canteen the food is limited no huge library where everyone can study
View moreThe Deans do not care about you. I know of several people that went to the Dean to talk about their situation and they never help the students. This school is not here for the students. Please, look into going to other schools before you choose it
View moreIt’s been my dream to become a chartered accountant and Vistula offered such possibilities with the ACCA program introduced. The lectures at the university all have their various experiences and are one of the best, but language is a bigger barrier as they sometimes mess up by either teaching with Polish notes or not being to express themselves fully.
One of the things I hated most was the way the university is and how slow the service provided by the dean was not the best. They were slow in handling emergencies and all. Another thing they could improve on is the standard of education offered in most of the programs. Vistula university would never be my first recommendation to anyone as there are better schools out there.
It is one of the most international universities I have seen with students from all over the world. Which means they need better English speakers in the school vicinity.
In regards to career prospects, I feel there are limited opportunities to get a job in most fields of study due to language barriers. I for one spent a few months looking for a job till I landed a job in my chosen field of study.
