Academics at SGH Warsaw School of Economics

SGH offers flexible programs, which could be adjusted to students’ needs. Students can choose between courses taught in English or Polish.

The Bachelor’s programs at the University include interesting classes and the option of taking foreign language courses. Global Business, Finance and Governance; International Economics; Management; Qualitative Methods in Economics and Information Systems are the available Bachelor’s options at SGH.

Master’s programs provide students with the opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills, learned during their Bachelor’s studies, professionally. Master’s students can choose between the following courses: Advanced Analytics – Big Data; Finance and Accounting with ACCA Qualification; Global Business, Finance and Governance; International Business.

The Doctoral Programs at SGH provide support in conducting research. The University’s PhD education includes a study curriculum and an individual research plan.

SGH offers MBA Programs as well. The two options that are currently available at the university are Canadian Executive Master of Business Administration Program (CEMBA) and Program MBA-SGH (Executive Master of Business Administration Program). 70% of the lecturers in CEMBA are from foreign universities and have extensive professional experience, which allows them to pass on sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge to people undertaking the course. Teaching and materials are delivered in English. Graduates of the program are awarded an original diploma from the University of Quebec at Montreal. The MBA-SGH Program is directed towards working professionals, who have Master’s degrees and experience of 5-8 years in the professional business environment. The focus of the program is on financial management, marketing strategic management, operations management and international management. The Program aims to develop students’ professional careers by taking their leadership skills to a whole new level. The lecturers delivering the Program are professors from the University, business people and visiting professors from Canada and Switzerland, which creates a well-rounded teaching method delivering various perspectives. Graduates of the MBA-SGH Program receive diplomas by SGH Warsaw School of Economics. Both Programs are taught on Friday and Saturday over the course of 18 months.

Campus & Student Life

SGH has a big family of students with approximately 13,700 students in Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees, more than 700 doctoral students and over 4,900 students doing other postgraduate courses. The University creates a wonderful international environment thanks to having representatives of almost 60 countries.

The campus, which consists of several buildings that are relatively close to each other, is located between Batorego and Rakowiecka Streets and the Niepodieglosci Avenue. It is convienently located near an underground station and a tram interchange, allowing students to travel around the city, explore its beauty and easily get to places they want to go to right after lectures. The campus is also close to the center of Warsaw. The buildings’ architecture resembles the original Polish concept of the interwar period. SGH boasts the biggest library in the field of economics in Poland, which contains classics of the economics field, more than 1 million volumes and over 200,000 magazines, both Polish and foreign.

Career & Alumni

1. The Career Service at SGH is always ready to help students find placements and job opportunities. The University website also advertises vacancies that students may want to apply to. SGH provides students with the opportunity to gain experience by participating in one of the student organizations at the University as well.
2. SGH students have been recorded to have the highest salaries among all Polish universities’ graduates. In fact, a large number of the Polish Finance Ministers are SGH Warsaw School of Economics graduates. Some of the notable alumni of the University include Professor Danuta Hubner (the first Polish commissioner in the European Commission, former Minister of European Affairs of the Republic of Poland, the Head of the Office of the Committee for European Integration and the Secretary of the State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland) and Professor Leszek Balcerowicz (former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance as well as President of the National Bank of Poland). Both of these graduates of SGH are also lecturers at the University.
