Student review [#104935] for BS Information Technology
at University of Mindanao

The BSIT program at University of Mindanao Digos College gave me a genuinely strong technical foundation. I built real, functional systems from the ground up, learned to work across front-end, back-end, and mobile development, and graduated with a GWA of 3.51 out of 4.0, high enough to have qualified for Summa Cum Laude.

What I valued most was how hands-on the program was. I wasn’t just learning theory, I was building complete systems, managing real project requirements, and developing skills I now use professionally. The instructors and staff who supported me throughout, including through some genuinely difficult circumstances in my personal life, made a real difference in helping me finish strong.

What I’d like to see improved is how the university handles situations where a class-wide issue affects grading fairness. During one semester, a minor subject was affected by a cheating incident that wasn’t caused by my section, yet the retake policy applied broadly, and the retake exam covered material that hadn’t been taught or provided to us beforehand. This resulted in a lower grade that ultimately cost me the Latin honor my GWA would have otherwise qualified for. I understand policies need to exist for academic integrity, but I believe there should be more room for individual circumstances to be reviewed, rather than a blanket policy applied without exception.

Overall, I’m proud of what I built and learned here, and I’d still recommend this program to future IT students. I just hope future students facing similar unfair circumstances have a clearer path to appeal.
