at University of Oslo

Studying the Norwegian welfare model at the University of Oslo provided me with a comprehensive understanding of one of the most advanced and equitable social systems in the world. The course explored the foundations of the Nordic welfare state, including its universalism, strong public sector, and emphasis on social solidarity. Through both theoretical frameworks and case studies, we examined how Norway balances economic competitiveness with social protection, addressing challenges such as aging populations, immigration, and welfare dependency.

What made the experience particularly enriching was the comparative perspective offered—placing the Norwegian model in the broader context of European welfare systems. Engaging with lecturers and students from diverse backgrounds also allowed for thoughtful debate on the adaptability of such a model in other regions, including Eastern Europe. This course sharpened my analytical lens on social policy and governance and deepened my interest in inclusive, citizen-focused policymaking.
