By way of introduction, I’m a final year medical student at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. My experience so far in school has not been that rosy, a blend of many good and sad moments. I would say it has been “bittersweet”. The journey into becoming a medical doctor started roughly 8 years ago, it’s clear I’ve had to spend longer time than expected, hence the frustration, distress, and agony in the face of the seemingly toxic environment we’ve all had to adapt to in a bid to keep our heads above the water. The fun moments were the times we had to face the trials that come with preparing for the revered medical examinations and coming off with flying colours. I’ll end with this: I’m stronger and better. I’m of the opinion that students seeking admission to the medical program at UI should be well prepared mentally and psychologically as this will help them surmount the challenges that will be faced in their journey. I’m persuaded that there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel for medical professionals globally.
