Prince Abubakar Audu University, formerly known as Kogi State University, is an evolving institution that has made notable progress in both academics and infrastructure over the years. Situated in Anyigba, Kogi State, the university offers a variety of programs across several faculties, including Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Arts, Education, and Law.

One of the university’s key strengths is its relatively peaceful and conducive learning environment. The campus is spacious, and there have been visible efforts to enhance facilities such as lecture halls—which I particularly appreciated—alongside laboratories and libraries. Many students commend the commitment of certain lecturers who go above and beyond to support academic success. A standout example for me was Mr. Alege, the Head of the Department of Social Sciences, whose dedication left a lasting impression.

That said, like many public universities in Nigeria, PAAU faces its share of challenges. During my time as a student, the institution was still in its developmental phase, with several buildings under construction. There was no connection to the national electricity grid at the time. Instead, the university relied on two 100kVA generators that were alternated between day and night, providing around 16 hours of electricity daily. Power supply would typically go off around 2 a.m. These infrastructural limitations, along with issues like inconsistent academic calendars, occasional staff strikes, and limited access to modern equipment, had a noticeable impact on student life.

Nonetheless, the university holds significant potential for growth. With continued investment in infrastructure, more student-focused administrative reforms, and sustained academic dedication, Prince Abubakar Audu University is well on its way to becoming one of Nigeria’s leading higher institutions.
