at Kaduna State University

As an undergraduate in the Department of Mass Communication at Kaduna State University (KASU), my academic journey has been both enriching and transformative. One of the most commendable aspects of the program is the university’s commitment to balancing theory with practical experience. Beyond classroom lectures and academic discussions, students are given hands-on opportunities that bring the media world to life.

A major highlight of my time at KASU has been the university-owned radio station. This facility has not only complemented our learning but has also provided a real-world platform where students like me can develop and sharpen our broadcasting skills. It has been instrumental in helping me find my voice and thrive as a budding media personality. The experience of working in an actual media environment as part of our training has given me a strong foundation for a career in journalism and broadcasting.

However, like many institutions, KASU is not without its challenges. One of the areas that needs improvement is student accommodation. The university provides very limited on-campus housing, which forces many students to seek alternative housing off-campus—often at higher costs and sometimes in less secure areas. This can be a significant inconvenience, especially for students from outside Kaduna.

Despite this, I believe Kaduna State University is a good place to learn and grow academically and professionally. The Mass Communication program, in particular, offers valuable exposure and experience for anyone looking to pursue a career in the media industry. I am proud of my time here, and I would definitely recommend the university to prospective students, especially those passionate about communication and media.
