I like that my university has dedicated lecturers who are always ready to help. The environment is also calm and good for learning. I would recommend my university to others, especially for students who value strong academics and a peaceful environment. Overall, my experience has been positive. It’s not perfect, but I’ve learned a lot and met great people along the way.
View moreThe University of Ilorin is a very nice school which I would recommend for anyone to study at,it’s academic excellence is top notch and the environment is very friendly.it has a high standard for discipline and doesn’t tolerate any form of discrimination amongst its students or lecturers.
My experience in the school was awesome and I had the opportunity of making friends later on during my programme which I wished I had made from the onset, having good people around you will make your experience in the school just right.
I like the location and the structure of my school it’s in a very serene and conducive environment it embraces nature(trees, good view etc), My lecturers are very flexible but I don’t like my school because the system is built to be religiously biased, I can’t express my fashion sense through dressing because it’s in a Muslim state and they’re going to have a problem with it.
View moreThe University of Ilorin, popularly called “Better by Far,” is honestly one of the best universities in Nigeria. In fact, it’s among the top 5 in the country, and that’s saying a lot considering Nigeria is the giant of Africa.
One thing students really like about Unilorin is the lecturers. They’re not just knowledgeable but also quite accessible – you can easily reach out to them for help or clarification, which makes learning a lot smoother.
Accommodation-wise, Unilorin is doing well too. There are good private hostels right inside the school, and the best part is that they’re affordable. So, if you prefer staying on campus, you’ll find something decent without breaking the bank.
The school is also super popular. Between 2019 and 2023, JAMB records showed that it was the most applied-to university in Nigeria. That alone says a lot about how much people trust and value the education Unilorin offers.
Now, the only major issue is transportation. Students who stay off-campus sometimes struggle because there aren’t enough school buses or cars to take them to and from lectures. So, you might end up waiting a while or rushing early to beat the crowd.
All in all, the University of Ilorin really lives up to its “Better by Far” motto. With just a few improvements. Therefore I will still recommend it to people.
View moreI don’t think I would recommend this school to anyone as of now. I used to always bragged about my school because we were the only federal school that wasn’t a part of Asuu, but ever since they joined Asuu, the school changed and it wasn’t as good as it once was. Notwithstanding, I liked the fact that we had access to good places in campus. I enjoyed that I could take a walk at night and be safe. I can’t say much about the lecturers in every department, but the ones in my department weren’t so nice. This is probably a problem of every federal university in Nigeria. Another problem I had back then was the issue of transportation. I believe we had enough buses but for some reason, there were many times when the buses became scarce and students had to trek to class. I also loved our school song. I believe it was the best out there. Another good thing about the school was that we had a very fast calendar. We were competing with private and state schools. The school as a whole isn’t so bad but with a good government, the school can go back to it original form as being the best federal school out there.

View moreMy time at the University of Ilorin was truly a journey of growth, filled with both rewarding experiences and a few challenges that helped shape my perspective. I’m happy to share a bit about what stood out to me during my years at UNILORIN.
The academic environment at UNILORIN is one of the things I’ll always remember. There’s a good variety of courses within my department, which gave me the chance to explore different aspects of my field. Most of the professors were approachable and willing to help when needed, although I wish some lectures could have been a bit more engaging. Sometimes, it felt like some professors could have made their sessions more interactive to help with understanding.
One of the highlights for me was working on my project titled “The Effectiveness and Rate of Use of Google Workspace Amongst UNILORIN Students.” It was such a rewarding challenge, and having Prof. Onasanya as my supervisor made all the difference. He guided me through the research process with so much patience and insight, and the project ended up being a real eye-opener into how students were using technology for their academic work. The whole experience not only boosted my research skills but also gave me a sense of purpose as I explored how modern tools are impacting education.
Campus life at UNILORIN was pretty vibrant, with plenty of opportunities for both academic growth and social involvement. The campus itself is spacious and green, which made it enjoyable to just walk around when I needed a break. The student union was active, and I found it great to participate in different events, whether they were intellectual talks or social gatherings. There were also decent sports facilities, and I had fun participating in some intramural sports.
The hostels, while fostering a sense of community, could get crowded and sometimes faced challenges with utilities like water and electricity. I’d also recommend future students explore the different eateries on campus; there’s always something new to try, and variety is key when you’re looking for a change from the usual meal options.
However, like any place, there were definitely a few bumps along the way. The biggest challenge for me was transport. Since I stayed off-campus, the distance from the main gate made it difficult to find reliable buses. It was especially frustrating during exam periods when everyone was rushing to get in and out of campus. I often found myself scrambling to catch a bus, which added unnecessary stress to an already stressful time.
Another challenge was the exam logistics. The CBT center was often overcrowded, and it sometimes felt like there weren’t enough seats for everyone. Waiting in long lines, especially during exam periods, wasn’t ideal, and the process felt rushed, adding even more pressure when exams were right around the corner.
That said, I do believe staying on campus would have alleviated some of these hassles. Being closer to everything; especially during those stressful periods, would have made a huge difference in reducing transport and exam-related stress.
All in all, I’d say that UNILORIN offers a strong academic foundation and a supportive environment for students. The challenges I faced were manageable, but they definitely taught me how to adapt. If you’re considering UNILORIN, I’d recommend staying involved in the student community and not being afraid to seek out help from your professors. And if possible, staying on campus would definitely make your university experience a lot smoother and more enjoyable.
Good luck to all future students! I hope you make the most of your time there and find it as fulfilling as I did.
