The University of Nigeria Nsukka has been for me a place of challenges and growth and has helped forge my personal and professional development.
Academically, the curriculum can be quite demanding and require intense study sessions; most of the lecturers are quite knowledgeable about their respective fields and some go the extra mile to help us students succeed. However, there are quite a few who don’t do their work properly. Also, in terms of practical experience, as an engineering student, I must say it was below my expectations.
However, campus life is something to be admired. The serenity of the environment, coupled with cool winds from trees that abound makes it a great place for study. It is also replete with great student organizations like the Nigerian Society of Engineers to help students grow professionally while cults and such organizations are basically non-existent. Extracurricular and social activities like football competitions, essay and debate competitions, excursions also abound, further enriching my experience. On the darker side, the lecture halls are mostly old and overcrowded with poor or no sound systems which didn’t sit well with my learning. Facilities are outdated, dilapidated or not there at all.
I also had trouble with strikes which disrupted learning and made the school cut the period for a semester in half in order to make up for lost time which though a bit helpful had negative impacts on learning.

In conclusion, UNN is a great place to study for a student who is hardworking and whose course of work is less practical like the arts. The sciences can also be nailed if you’re willing to put in the effort and make up for what is absent by attending workshops and joining good organizations.
