What I dislike about the university is the way lecturers mark and give scores. Most of the times it might be accurate then most times its not. You can give your 100% and end up being marked badly.
I would like for this to be corrected

Being a student at the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has been an enriching experience, and I can genuinely say that my overall impression is quite positive. UNICAL offers a wide range of academic programs that truly reflect a commitment to providing students with a well-rounded education.

What I Like:

1. Diverse Academic Programs: UNICAL offers a variety of academic programs, providing students with options to explore their interests and tailor their education to their career goals.

2. Supportive Faculty: The faculty members here are not just experts in their fields but are genuinely invested in our success. Their commitment to delivering quality education is evident.

3. Practical Learning Approach: The academic curriculum strikes a good balance between theory and practical applications. I appreciate how real-world examples and case studies are integrated into our learning, making it more engaging and applicable to future challenges.

4. Research and Innovation: UNICAL’s commitment to research is commendable. The modern facilities and laboratories create an environment where students can actively participate in research projects, contributing to the university’s culture of academic excellence.

Areas for Improvement:

1. Resource Accessibility: Some students, including myself, have encountered challenges in accessing specific resources. Improving resource accessibility could enhance the overall learning experience.

2. Course Diversification: While the academic programs are diverse, there could be an opportunity to further diversify course offerings. This would cater to a broader range of academic interests among students.

Recommendation:

Based on my experience, I would recommend UNICAL to prospective students, considering its positive attributes. However, it’s crucial to assess how well the university aligns with individual preferences and goals. I encourage potential students to visit the campus, engage with current students, and gather comprehensive information before making a decision.

Overall, our experience at the college is excellent. The teachers are always available to answer our questions, and the college’s infrastructure and facilities are excellent. Canteen and hostel facilities are also excellent. I adore our Mechanical engineering Department in particular.

My school is one of the best in the southern part of Nigeria. I study petroleum engineering and I hope to see myself going places in the nearest future because of the good lectures we have here. Our only problem is good facilities. Sometimes our facilities give issues and we hope for things to be restored and we will have a good place to study

The university lacks engineering lecturers, engineering as a course hasn’t been fully accredited yet, no workshops at all for practicals, department building far from main campus and going to the nearby University to hire lecturers for part time jobs

The environment and the overall atmosphere is that of one with a goal in mind; to educate. Having that foundation to fall back on in an otherwise over-demanding and overwhelming position you will most definitely find yourself in is genuinely refreshing.
